Stoned :Someone on another forum said with the Mclaren F1, the only insurance you could get was 3rd party.
I'd imagine this would be the same as the cost to repair one would be astronomical.
Normally the people rich enough to afford one get a 3rd party policy through Lloyds and take out personal indemnity - i.e. they have enough money in their bank accounts to cover the costs of any such an accident. Lloyds of London are famous for the saying 'we'll insure anything' so saying you can't get insurance on them isn't true - it's just how much it will cost!
Cheers,
Andy

Bugatti made their own insureance for this car did they not?
I'd imagine it'll get replaced with a new one or it'll go back to the factory and have all the components transfered into a new shell. i dont think the person will be too fussed about getting it back within the week, they'll just use the ferrari instead
JAmes.

He was being a dick, and i'd give him a slap if i met him. He was doing 100mph in a 40mph zone in heavy rain and hit a woman in a vw who was 7 months pregnant. Personaly i dont think that a fine and loosing his licence is all that he should get.
Just because I keep talking about definetly doing it doesn't mean I'm actualy going to do it.

Media publicity is hardly a precious commodity now is it?
Personally I think its a good that the media have covered this, it is a ground breaking car (one of only a few in ths country) which has been crashed.
If you think differently then why are you using a forum dedicated to cars?

bugatti will most probably by the car back and repair it, i think it was on finance or something paid 100k over asking price for it. he is a complete tosser, if you ask me, as for the veyron, screw that, looks crap anyways from all directions and dangles.....its not an F1 at the end of the day, it might be faster, i dont care, F1s are so much cooler

I didn't say I found it uninteresting, I just feel that there are more pressing matters to be put to the public eye.

Just to chip in my 2 cents.
Most insurance policys will only cover about £250,000 worth of damage, as in most case, you're never going to damage enouhg stuff to rack up a bill that high.
As Chris said however, insuring one of those and stacking it would probably rinse your insurance company and it's not worth the risk on their part.
Secondly, why is it, whenever a new stupidly powerful car comes out, a month down the line there is a news story about some mong ditching it into some trees/houses/cars/people?
It might be just me, but having an £800,000 car does not automatically make all the other cars and associated hazards disappear!

It says Police describe the accident as a 50mph crash (certainly the damage is consistant with a 25-30mph impact) and not a 100mph crash. Sounds like a typical clueless sod hearing something noisy and asuming it must be hammering along.
I've had an old boy leap into the road infront of me waving me to slow down when travelling at 20mph because of the sound of the car.

andymac :In the couple of articles I read it didn't say whether the driver was the owner or not....
Either way, 100 in a 40....Shame about the other car, really.
More shame about the pregnant woman in the other car!
