ROVER TURBO INLET PLATE , DIRECT BOLT ON FIT to zetec

Postby H41-NSF on Fri Mar 07, 2008 12:33 am

These plates are if your planning on using a rover inlet manifold. The plates allow the manifold to bolt straight on with no mods at all. The plate has counter sunk 8m bolts through the back that bolts to the inlet then ordinary bolts to bolt both the plate and inlet straight to a zetec head. These plates are cut with a laser and are spot on. you wont find another plate that is such a good fit like this one. Plates are 50 posted and they come with the counter sunk bolts and nuts to match. using this setup on my car and is perfect.

I also do the same if using a fiesta turbo inlet manifold . these are also a direct bolt on jobbie . these have the holes drilled and tapped into the plate instead of counter sunk bolt. 50 posted.

It comes with shorter countersunk bolts only had these ones in today and used just for show.

FRST5090

will get it sent to you on tuesday as i'm away at the moment.

JAY

I'll find out about stainless or alloy but i know the alloy can only be cut in 6mm instead of 8mm as ally is harder to cut with the laser. will get back to you.

same size of pipe, but internal or external of the ERST manifold pipes mate?

reason i ask as i would want the pipe to go through the hole so i could flare it out and tig weld it on the inside then weld it again on the out side,
i dont have pipe yet but i know someone with some decent pipe with a good wall thickness, i just dont know what size it is yet

Hi Nath,

Is it quite easy to weld the plate to the ERST exhaust manifold? Is it stong?

And you don't happen to mod the manifolds yourself, do you? I'm not a million miles from you.

Could be very interested :)

Cheers :D

Hi mate well i have just said to someone else that i can supply the plate modify the manifold , weld the manifold and post it back for 60 quid but as you could pick it up your self then it would be 50. It not a 5 minute job but your welcome to come over one morning and wait around ,

These exhaust plates ect can be made up by anyone with a laser cutter. I used to get plates made up for less than £4 each, are yours expensive for a reason? Those exhaust plates look like an exact copy of a zetec exhaust gasket.

Please don't advise people to ruin a perfectly good manifold by cutting one to pieces and MIG welding it just to sell them. If you must weld cast, then use 99% nickel rod in an AC arc welder. Build it up bead by bead. As soon as you lay a short bead, peen the glowing bead with a hammer and keep peening for a little bit. That'll help even out the stresses. Then clean carefully and repeat. I would still strongly advise against it.

i know welding cast iron is a right nightmare and mig welding it wont happen but i dont plan to use a cast iron manifold, im gunna make a 4 branch from scratch.
as for getting plate done for £4, i wish, no one near me would make one that cheap :(

Is it for a Zetec XR2? Because if it it, I have a magnex 4-Branch here already with a flange similar to that one, made up ready to go.

If not, I could get some flanges for cost plus postage, which would be less than £4 a shot I'm sure!

4 pound you say well i would also like to know were to get them at that price. I pay 10 quid each for the plates then its 6 quid to post it so i make 9 quid out of a plate. If you think the price is unreasonable then fine but theres no need to tell me I'm fobbing people off to make money. I have made lots of these manifolds up and not a single one has ever cracked , Yes they are cast but its not poor quality cast as the weld bites in nicely rather than just melt and burn it away. I cant believe how rude you are :o when you know none of the facts about them . I'E what i pay and if they last.
