Project White : Fiesta RS Turbo *Couple of pics*

Postby Gmc on Mon Apr 30, 2012 6:21 pm

Hi guys, thought i should kick off the resto/build/project thread for the fiesta..

picked it up on friday just there from newark on trent, nottingham. Huge thanks to Rab (Cuprabob) for the loan of his trailer, couldnt have dont it without it! Bloody long day, but all went well and without a problem, this was me at wetherby services on the way back up
Image

got it back to its current home and unloaded
Image

left it till today, went over to have a proper nosey at it as its the first chance ive had and ive caught up on sleep now!
decided that with the engine out it was a perfect chance to give the bay a wee scrub to get the dirt away before the engine go's in.

BEFORE:
Image

and AFTER:
Image
pics dont truly show how dirty it was before, but its much better now. Came with a chrome bonnet stay, chrome strut tops, and a couple of roose hoses (which will match the boost hoses i have, result!)

now, the eagle eyed amongst you will notice that theres a couple of things missing, now.. i could be doing with a mobile welder to come out and do 2 tiny bits, namely.. the bonnet catch plate was cut off, i have it in the car to be welded back in place, and secondly, the battery tray was cut out to relocate the battery as it was going to be running a T3, it will be running my T2 so therefor i need a tray welded back in, nothing major really but something i could be doing with getting done before the engine go's in.

bonnet catch plate..
Image

and now for those niggly bits which im going to do before the engine swap..
Image
Image

its had some switches/alarm/immobiliser bits and bobs in the dash and has extra bits and holes here and there, which i want rid of, so the dash from the silver car will be getting fitted, also, the boot pop/elec window switches are in the center console on this car, which i hate as it looks awful, so again this will be sorted with the bits from the silver car which had the switches in the doorbins, so what this means basically is, i'm going to take the dash, and entire car loom out, and replace it with the one from the silver car, which also has the benefit that i wont have to re-wire my alarm, so its win-win. will update things when i start on that one!

its very solid indeed, was the one callum222 had for sale, after being in england all of its years, its now found its way to me in Glasgow! hoping to have everything done very quickly, that means dash, entire loom, engine, management etc all in and done, taxed and MOT'd and on the road for JUNE 3rd!

small update today, wanted to get something done at least, so i got the rs7's off the silver one and put them on the new shell, also put the rear euro style lights on too, main reason being, the 3 spokes had slightly soft tyres so this makes it easier to push around. certainly makes it look more my own!

Image
Image

also, a nosey behind the front wheels showed me the rs2000 front brakes, calipers are done white, and it looks like decent discs on there, also the front shocks do look new right enough, as was mentioned when i bought it. all good to know!
Image

as i said, small update lol not much i can really get stuck into right now without having the other car there aswell, and i dont want to start really pulling it apart till nearer when the engine is getting done, the aim is to have both cars in the same place for the least time nessesary, dont want to take up too much space!

Yeah, quickly is the key to this one, show season is slowly ticking away and I want some use out of it before its tucked away for the winter! Dunno what I'm doing with the 3 spokes yet, probably keeping them incase I take a mad turn and fancy puttin them back on lol

Yeah, never had that option before, the old car had cosworth brakes, so I couldn't fit anything over the damn things lol least with the rs2000 ones I could keep the 3 spokes on it if I wanted, actually it opens me up to a world of wheel choices now!

max, silver one has buggered rear chassis legs, sills (inner and outer) and other bits here and there, was too far gone to save!

right..well, i got another bit done today, while it stayed dry i managed to get on with things..

brought round the silver car, it may drive in, but it wont drive out lol
Image

didnt take many pics of the process, mainly ones for myself of where things go etc, but i got the seats, dash, and all the wiring out..
Image

at which point i should show you the following.. oh and yes thats my foot!
Image

and if you look closely, you'll see its fitted with a monoblock sill..
Image

so what i was left with for today was this..
Image

i was smart about it and this time, removed all the wiring from the rear, sides and bay.. then took the dash out with the loom still in place behind it, which will make re-fitting a lot easier, just a case of pushing the engine electrics through the bulkhead again and bolting the dash in, then connecting up the bay and running the wires back to the rear.

stopped there for the day, as it started chucking it down and i would have got soaked! (no gazeebos kicking about that i could build up lol)

Silver one will be getting sold when I'm done with it as it'll still be worth something to someone, and will still have the cosworth brakes, Koni suspension, bodykit and interior

Thats a shame for the silver one, so sad to think how many frst's have gone due to the moths an worms

Fella bear in mind she is still worth something, i could cut a shed load of repair panels off that and im sure a few others would/could too.

If you decide to cut it up, if cool could/would you mind giving me a heads up please...be interested in a few bits :) :Q :Q

Oh and clever thinking with the loom and dash, wish id thought of that one

yeah its a shame so many have gone that way, wont be cutting it up, the shell will be going as a whole, either for restoration or breaking, still gonna be worth a bit in parts, and buggered if im breaking it myself, ive already taken up my uncles backdoor for long enough lol annnnnywayy...

righty-o.. more updates but not so many progress pics..

ended up over at the car on saturday evening after work / before work(2) and got the dash from the silver one into the white one, wires and all, went in fairly easily, simple case of feeding the engine bay section through the bulkhead first, and then putting the dash in, stopping occasionally to pull through the bay loom till it was all there, left it like that as i had to head out, but it was an unexpected start!

Image

came back to it on monday and worked on it for about 9 hours all in, running the loom down both sides, connecting up all the earths, re-connecting wires id snipped for easyness, then putting the trim back together, also swapped over the looms in each door so that they would connect up to the new interior loom. This in itself posed a problem, the doors & doorcards had no holes for the window switches, which needed to be made, and also.. the loom connectors in the door shuts were different sizes, which was an absolute pig of a job to fix!

i eventually got everything wired up, put in the boost guage, re-assembled the dash, threw in a battery and tested it all, which all worked perfectly, all lights, electrics and alarm are functioning as they should. I then re-fitted the seats so that it would be ready to roll on wednesday, so it now looks like this..

Image
Image

The reason it needs to roll on wednesday is that its headed into a garage to have the bonnet catch section welded back on, and to have my lovely brand new battery tray welded into place..(cheers Chris "Knuckles"!!!)
Image

after thats done, i'll give it a lick of paint and then all that remains is to get the engine in, which is going to be this weekend with the help of HSS hire for an engine crane, my mate Scott, and Derek (RSOC Local Fiesta Guru), which reminds me.. better get a couple of cases in..

all going to plan, it'll be roadworthy at the weekend and then its just a few bits and bobs to tidy up and then get it booked in for an MOT :D

yeah, id love to have kept it myself but just didnt have the money to do it justice and properly restore it, id sooner see it go to someone who can afford to do it right, way too rare to see it broken up!

maybe mr MOONDUST FRST will come along and add it to his collection... :P

yeah had that regret before, wish id never sold my saph 2000E cossie rep, loved that car! white one when its done will basically be the silver one, its already got the interior & loom from the other one, and the engines next, so for all i should really miss the silver one, im still basically driving it, way i see it, the shell is just another part, which needed replaced!
