polo lights

Postby dogz on Sun Sep 11, 2005 10:55 pm

i was searching through earlier and saw some mentions of putting mk4/5 polo lights onto a mk3 but no real information or pics of completed conversions

does anyone know exactly whats involved in doing this does the bonnet require much modding or is it just brackets mostly any pics of completed swaps

if anyone has any information they think might help me could they please let me know

thanks

you would need the panels for the lights to attatch to, you would also need the wings modifying, the bonnet modifying.

the gap under the lights should b ok tho as fez lights are fairly flat anyway.

the thing with the bonnet and wings tho, is that they wont just need to be made to fit round the lights, they will need reshaping to blend in with the angles off it, otherwise u will have odd angles in your bonnet that will blatantly not b facotry looking.

the best headlamp conversions, in my opinion are ones that are very subtle, e.g something that is the same shape as fezza lights but where the indicator and headlamp unit are all one piece. and mayb crystal aswell.

little changes go along way and its normally the small intricate details that go make it stand out the most :)

the mk4/5 headlights are the basic same shape as the fez, and they are also crystal

been looking at them for a while, been wanting to get to know some one with one so that i can measure the lights :D

They might fit the basic shape, no doubt you could get any headlights in the gaps ford have left . Bonnet's gonna need modifying around the light so badboy would be best..

Looks like a mission tbh, but they look good, ish.

surely the wiring wouldnt really be any different as it jus the connector block that goes onto the back of the bulb?

so all u need is to snip and resolder some new connectors on??

wiring should be pretty simple, the only problem is mounting them really, and the bonnet needs slight modding

They need to be upside down to fit the indicator properly.

Tbh just go to Focus, homebase or wherever and get some brackers, drill and mount.. then pull your bonnet slightly forward and se if they fit. shouldn't look too bad.

You don't have to turn the headlights upside down. I have been looking in to this mod for a long time (as Ghost knows  ) The problems I have come across are the headlights are from the Polo facelift model so it's a MK5 6n, plus the the black headlights he has used are the GTi version which are xenons which are not cheap and can only purchased from VW for 500 for the pair, and they don't come in black.

The headlights are fine to put in with some slight adjustments but the headlights don't line up with the rest of car, the panels, indicators are going to need alot of tweeking to get it right and the indicators would have to be changed to crystal style to blend in.

Good Luck
