Need to get something off my chest
Apologies in advance, need somewhere to rant!!
I've been to bluewater today and took the motorway there and the backroads back home, and can't believe the level of driving stupidity I've seen along the way.
I'm a sensible driver normally - there's a time and a place for speeding and letting your hair down and thats a track. So I'm coming back home along a country lane, doing around 30mph as it was a narrow stretch of road and there is a pedestrian walking along the side of the road. All of a sudden, the car that has been tailgating me roared straight past and off down the road, millimetres from my car. I mean was he that impatient that he couldn't have waited until he got to a wider stretch of road?!
So I get back to the residential area that I'm dropping a friend off at. I'm driving along a 30mph street at 30mph and all the way along that road I have a car around a metre off my bumper, foglights on etc etc. I slow down mighty early as it is bloody soaking on the roads and I didn't fancy him ramming into the back of me, so he starts using his horn! I get to a T junction, to turn left and he is turning left too, when all of a sudden as I'm about to go around a parked car he comes roaring straight past me on the wrong side of the road, with his middle finger hanging out the drivers window. I still fail to see what I was doing wrong there!!
Another thing that has got my goat recently but especially personified today.
Why, oh why is young female car insurance half the price of that of young males?
Two more tailgaters today - one, driving a newish astra, I saw it behind me, and I see a sillhouette of a girl driving it, seemingly brushing her hair with the sun visor down. When she undertakes me at the lights (i'm turning right) She's brushing her hair, looking in the mirror, TEXTING ON A BLACKBERRY. Surely all those put together is a massive risk?!
The second tailgater (brand new twingo), again another young female, again texting. I mean WTF? And I have to pay a GRAND for insurance cause someone rolled into my car?!
Just not fair. I won't even start on the state of the roads with regards to potholes, dips, bumps, cracks etc, If I start I won't finish till a week on Tuesday.
Thanks for the opportunity to get that off my chest. It REALLY annoys me sometimes.

Sounds to me you drive a bit to slow
Agree with you in regards to young women and tail gateing Last week I went out witha freind in her car for the first time shes 22 and any road under a 70mph she was on a bumper and understeered on every bend and roundabout. Scarry thing is the car was running about 75% Id say needs a service

The reason why blokes insurance is higher is for the reasons you just wrote, texting whilst doing makeup causes less accidents than driving unsafely, fast or with the road rage bug.
But yeah, agreed, its completely necessary tailgating someone who you think is too slow, just take solace that these sorts of folk have more problems than you and aren't worth the agro

There are some dicks out there, but if you drive slowly, pull to the side so people can pass you

Weird, cause the last time I remember in a 30mph zone the speed you drive is 30mph, unless I missed a memo or
something??

This particular country lane was 40mph and I was travelling in that section of it ( being almost single track ) at 35ish

Driving at 35 in a 40 is bound to inflame a lot of people, though.

Re: Need to get something off my chest
Easier said than done but just don't let it get to you; I had someone tailgate me the other day, first time it's happened in a long time. I was stuck behind someone in the outside lane and this Audi came screaming up behind me, as soon as the person infront of me moved I sped back up to the speed I was going ...mph and he was still up my arse, so i figured fair enough he wants to go faster and I pulled in. He then pulled in too as he was coming off at that junction, I watched him for a few minutes and seemingly it was just the way he drove; he would sit a few feet off peoples rear bumpers
Pointless getting stressed over it, he'll have an accident one day and probably won't even learn from it, fingers crossed the accident keeps him out of a car for a while imo
On the note of slow drivers; what really gets me (not a dig at anyone in this thread) is people who try and enforce their own restrictions on people. For example if I'm driving back late at night on an empty stretch of motorway I'll probably want to be making safe progress. Most people will move over, some are just idiots who don't see you and some know full well you are there and knowingly don't let you past becuase they think it's up to them to enforce the law on other people. THESE people annoy me.

Unless driving conditions dictated that you should be driving slower then the limit set, I would get hacked off doing 35 in a 40.

When you got to a wider stretch of road there might have been something coming the other way.

I know just what you mean about driving standards today. Only today I got stuck behind some bloke dawdling along in front of me. Naturally I whacked the foglights on to intimidate him. Then he starts slowing down ridiculously early for a junction. Gave it a good long blast on the horn and when I finally got past I gave him a healthy dose of the finger. Think it was a green Fiesta he was driving, or something.

My name is Alex. I used to have a Capri. I don't anymore. But I'm still called Capri.

i get what you mean about a time and place definatly. but i dont no whats happened to people driving. like why cant people go around corners no more!! they have to slow down to about 5mph to go round!! and also ppl seem to have a problem with not stopping at the ends of roads anymore.
but tbh if i was behind you in that lane i would probablu got stressed to. maybe i do rush about to much but i would of been like come on mate places to go ppl to see!!!! when i see a 40mph road or higher i get happy becuase im actualy aloud to give the car a bit of speed and not doodle at 30!!!!! it doesnt even feel like the cars moving at 30mph!
tailgating is annoying tho but to save everyone the hassle its easier to just move over a let them get past.... i dont drive slow by any means but still get ppl in bms and mercs going round me i no when to drop off and let them past.

Re: Need to get something off my chest
in regards to the male female insurance differences i agree
my bro turned 18 on the weekend.
cheapest he been quoted £4800 a year to insure a mk4 fiesta 1.3 Hcs endura
which works out to £500 a month installments
but my sister on a 1.4 corsa with mods gets £850
cant work out how young people can get insurance these days. No wonder they drive uninsured and break the law.

i know what you mean about the corners though, i'm still learning to drive and if i turn at a junction at any more than about 10 mph i get told off by my driving instructor even though its safe to do so.

Re: Need to get something off my chest
my step son has racked up several points driving like a chive so recantly he has slowed down to drive properly, not long ago he was been tailgated on a country road, he was driving slow because of the funeral procesion infront, like any respectul person would, they all stoped at the lights when the lights went green my step son held back from the procesion only to be rammed by the chive driving his mummys s**t people carrier, my step son got out of his car to ask what the chive was playing at and was told your holding me up its a creen light now get moving, my step son calmly asked the chive to get out of the car so he could teach him a lesson and the chive locked his door and just sat there
why drive like a dick if your not man enough to back it up
and why drive like that when its not even your car?????? i bet his mummy didnt take kindly to the scuffs on the bumper of her car.
i've never liked tailgaters but since i've had kids it realy gets me angry especialy in big 4x4s where they can easly see the kids in the back of the car, not long back in the snow i was been tailgated litteraly the car was so close i couldnt see his headlights i tapped the brakes and the dick locked up and spun off the road, did i stop? no why should i? i hope he wrote his car off.
