mk4 wing mirrors
Hi just a quick question, ive currently got standard mk3 mirrors on my rs, but recently brought some new mk4's to fit. Ive read through the fitting guides on here and it all seems straight foward but was wondering do you keep the original mirror adjusters that are alread in my car, will the wire from the new ones fit into the original adjuster? Hope that makes sense?! Cheers Andy.

Re: mk4 wing mirrors
and you want mk3.5 mirros not mk4.
mk4 have a rounded front end on the base plate.
you will need to open the hole in the door for ther adjuster to fit through also

you can change the base plate over to the mk3.5 ones, if someone is willing to sell just these parts.
its not un heard of, ive seen a fair few mk3.5's in scrappy with the mirror busted off and the plate ok so im sure someone prob has some.
i might have a spare somewhere but could say tbh

There will be plenty of 3.5 ones in scrap yards at the mo, should be able to pick up a set easily, and dont forget to get the interior half too

Re: mk4 wing mirrors
i used a jig saw on my old xr2i to cut the door to allow the bigger manual adjuster through.
funny times
i let you in on a secret which means you dont need to cut the door at all
just buy MK3.5 electric mirrors
that way the loom will just push through the mk3 cut out and will bolt up normally without cutting the door.
Then just adjust them by hand or go the whole hog and make up the loom for the mirrors and get hold of the internal mirror covers
