Headlight camcorder video was a success! *VIDEO HERE*
Since I hadn't driven the ZT since Ford Fair and was getting itchy feet, plus you may have seen the headlight I adapted to allow me to mount my camcorder inside it, I decided to take it out tonight to see how good a video it could take...and the answer was - pretty darn good!
The picture is extremely smooth, though the contrast seems a little out for some reason. The microphone perhaps needs covering a bit, as the volume of the chatter is a bit much it at times. My PC's encoding the large MPEG file as a DivX file as I type, so I'll upload it tomorrow along with a couple of pics. 46Mb file, about 5 minutes long. Oh, and there's some close-up sheep action for those of you who like that kind of thing!
Please right-click this and go to "Save Target As..." to download the video from Smo's new host site
This is a DivX file, so you will need the usual codecs to view it. If it doesn't play properly (video screen freezes) scroll back a bit (not RIGHT back to the beginning or it still won't play) and hopefully it'll sort itself out.
Let me know if it doesn't work please!

Look forward to the upload, do you get much wind noise? or is the mic well shielded by the plastic cover?

Looking forward to the vid!
Where you planning on uploading it to?, please not rapidshare, don't think i've ever been successful on there.

Jamie - As hoped, the perspex casing shielded the majority of the wind roar from the microphone. The video illustrates that in about a 5-second period where I'm driving off-boost off-throttle and it's coasting at around 70mph round corners and it all suddenly seems very quiet!
You'll see what I mean in a few minutes when the upload finishes
Richard - It's uploading via http://www.yousendit.com at the moment...another site which doesn't have a perfect track record, but I don't have my own means of hosting and it's about the best I've found
Some pics (which will be going in my other thread in Members Gallery):
I filled up then pulled over to remove the normal headlight and fit the camera light:
And a shot on the way home:
You'll notice I had the flip screen out and facing forwards to allow me to tweak the position. I must say I felt a bit posey standing in front of my car with the remote, watching my headlight to view all the footage I'd just taken
And back home again
Video is currently 38% downloaded, I'll post the link at the top of this thread once it's complete

Ian - You don't work!
Jonezy - I don't know what that is, but I'll have to check my engine bay to see if I have one

Man, some of you people are so useless! I put the link to the required codecs with every video I post, but thought "Nooo they all know how to do it now"
Clearly not when it comes to retarded barbers!
All you have to do is download this codec package and you should be able to watch them every time
If, like Gav, you're useless and the vid is only playing sound, click on the following link to enable you to watch the video!
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Cod ... l_in_1.htm
Download that (takes no time at all) and it should play just fine.

That's mad! Sounds like some sort of jet car
Think you need to buy a couple more cameras so you can switch between them for the ultimate video
Top stuff though, works well and sounds great

Smo - Yeah! All you hear is the turbo and the radiator fans at one point when I parked up for a couple of minutes to let a slow car get far enough ahead on a narrow road to let me play
Was quite surprised the rev limiter wasn't audible
But yes, switching from camera position to camera position would be good, I should be able to make a much better video combining inside/headlight/exterior footage
RAYNER - Cheers! They're sort of near Tebay in Cumbria, I daresay you have decent roads where you are!
D.J - Glad you enjoyed it!
It's a shame really, I get too considerate these days and try not to chatter or pop off the limiter as I overtake people, it must be really quite scary for the less-observant, more fragile drivers who are taken by surprise, and I don't want to cause a crash TBH! And yes, it was a grotty little Fiat

TIL13R - I can't take credit for the sheep, they pretty much do what they want
Was hoping to get reeeeeeally close so we could see the terror in its eyes
AW3K - As said, you should be able to click the link and register for free, then download. I think yousendit.com occasionally stumbles a bit, but give it a minute and try again and all should be fine

Reminds me of an Evo I built up on Gran Turismo, as the camera position I choose is the same, and it was very loud...
Definately need all your future videos from that position!
(No news from wheel person btw
Maybe I'll drive some roads like that soon

Mike - Yeah it reminded me a lot of Gran Turismo too. Most (if not all) their turbo cars only give dump valve sounds on the game, so when you can hear my dump valve whooshing away it's just like playing the game again!
Stoopid wheel man, wish he'd hurry up and get you your tyres done!
rich - Good luck

- genius video mount. i was gonna suggest using the headlight protector as a windblock but you will have lines on the film....
That turbo chatter sounds like u have a few tweety birds in the wastegate -- lol
You must of done £20 worth of petrol in that video.
Makes me wanna get a turbo now.
