HCS back box
Hi i have a 1.1 HCS and need to change the back box for the MOT as my universal doesn't fit very well. I am probably going to get a standard one but they look terrible with their stupid saggy tips so i just wondered if anything else will be a direct fit? Like the SI back box for example as this is a bit better looking, but still OEM.

Re: HCS back box
You won't find anything with a decent size tail pipe unfortunately. About all you'll find are some straight-cut tail pipes as opposed to the ones that aim downwards, but obviously they'll be small diameter still.
What I would do is, get whatever back box I could find cheap, cut it down a bit (especially if it aims downwards), and attach an aftermarker tail piece. After all, it's only for looks
Failing that, get a reducer and fit an Si back box.

Yeah i thought of that, just cutting the end down to where its straight and fitting a tip
As far as the SI box goes, whats involved to fit that?
Are there any other options, Rs, rst xr?

An Si, XR2i and RS1800 backbox will have a 2" bore and the FRST will have a 2 1/2" bore, so either require a reducer.
They will both be a straight swap, except you put a reducer between the backbox and your midsection.

Re: HCS back box
I had a few exhausts on mine, None fitted right.
The last one I had was a 'GT3' or something, from ebay. Fitted ok after a bit of fiddling but still wasnt 100%

No it didn't blow or anything just needed a bit of persuasion to get it fitted.

MK3-MATT :Could you point me in the right direction of a reducer please dave
I basically just used pieces of an old pipe I no longer needed and wedged them in the end of the si backbox to make the diameter smaller. Took three sleeves from memory to make it the right size
