Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, new shock
its running spot on now
i cant claim the fame on that either, my old mans been potching with it, unseized a valve or something on the carb, was rock solid he said, also swapped out the condenser and points for the electronic gizmo, and it starts on the button and idles sweet, hes now been bidding on some replacement parts for it
such as a new parcel shelf as its one is fooked
hes actually bidding on twin dellorto carbs, that would give a nice hike in power, well see if he wins
water pump is still leaking even after inspection, its missing its gasket, even sealer couldn't stop it, so hes bidding on a new one
front bumper has been painted
just need to look into the rattles from the engine
i do remember a bolt fell into the bellhousing when fitting the engine, could be that, but was hard to remove once engine was mated to the gearbox

yay we have sorted it right out now!
took the starter motor off, and found the bolt that had fallen in the bellhousing, then noticed the torque converter bolts were quite loose, they must have loosened up after getting it running a while ago
so with them tightened up we got it back together, stared it up and was glad to hear this:
wont be long till its put through the mot!
so relieved with it

Ye0, I hate having to change jobs mid-stream, you always lose your place or forget to double-check things. I always end up stressing late at night thinking "did I do this, did I do that" - have to write it down then check it the following day. s**t weather today (and feel crap tbh) otherwise I'd be finishing gear linkage on the wifes golf.

yea was a bit short lived lol, took it for a test drive up and down the lane, slow and under powered, foot down nearly reached sp up my long lane, so think I've set it to the rearing timing mark, feels like its the timing

got some very nice set of carbs coming for this soon, will need a manifold and trumpets for them before they are fitted
also a parcel shelf thats not franked, and water pump
shoud be making decent power after a 4 branch

its not deffinate theyre going ont he mk3 atm, as we still need a manifold, some sort of adaptation for the linkage and fuel lines yet, could go on his mk1, or even my fiesta one day if im lucky

Stick the carbs on the fiesta, easy to do, I reckon you could do it in a couple of hours and have something really fun to drive

To start with use an esc module off a 1.1/1.3 fiesta, all you need to connect is ignition live, earth, coil pack and crank sensor
When funds permit use a 'megajolt' ignition only ecu, second hand can be had for under £150 and there's ready to go map files to use it, and then have it tweaked on the dyno

Re: 1986 Capri 2.0 Laser project, new shock & smooth running vid
fitted this new shiny today

note the manking expansion tank behind the airbox...

well out it come

cleaned up the area behind it, was full of that black tar gunk
comparison

so much nicer, cilit bang sort of stuff and rice i used, come out lovely!!
then onto the leaky water pump, removed it.. had no gasket only silicone to try seal it

new gasket on

cleaned up the area

Done, redone the timing also, but i threw the dizzy out so need a hand to get it running
and then when i went back indoors, this was waiting for me

lovely jubbly
sure he said they were sold with rubbers though, didnt get any

the engine is still not running, completely stumped, waiting for the old man to admit defeat and accept help, proud sod...
meanwhile we took a trip west and visited the Escort Agency, narberth, pembrokeshire

where some heavy resto work was being done...

the stores, suspended mk6 shell

and a European LHD mk3 capri 1.6, its an ex film model police car, its getting weighed in this week so the firm owner said take what you like

so we did

some of theyre other work

second RS2000

not sure what hes planning for that red interior, it was missing the front seats, but we took loads from it
we only went there for an ignition barrel

well since the engine aint going anywhere atm, might aswel make a start on the bad cosmetic pieces
so i began rubbing the wing down, as it had a shunt at some point and is also rust here and there

rust

after its rub down, i cant really use the grinder atm as its too loud for my ear

jony, its about time you got a compressor and some air tools fella, oh, and some ear defenders
a grinder can be a bit to harsh to surface rust like that, it takes too much off and thins the metal out, get a air belt sander, air grinder/cutter, and a angled air sander, once ytou use them, your wonder why you never got them before

50l one isnt that bit mate, would take up about as much room as a engine and gearbox, so can be tucked under a bench or something
