This is a classic example of how *not* to brag about your tuning plans. Read on... (Proj)

Anyone know of a company that will turbo a zetec engine and how much this will cost roughly?

its not that easy the work involved in the conversion means at the end of the day you might as well let ian assemble it as well, you will have to install it anyway as he is concentrating on building his focus and hasn't got the time to do an install. but he will still build engines for customers call him he did mine and i was well happy.

So does he build a 1.8 turbo zetec 16v? That runs 3bar boost with the engine turned off? Well when you play the game you turbo your car properly. People have to spend alot to hold boost in whilst using it. Well I drop the compression right down to about 5:1, strap on a big turbo compressor, put in some long shallow cams, gas flow the head, write a program to control the lot and bobs your uncle, masses of power from a tiny engine, we talk 450hp easy. Not really for a fiesta that one unless you like eating driveshafts and gearboxes, but get a "RWD"er, slap in a cossie box and capri diff with a set of wide rims, kills most things, apart from figther jets and f1 cars.

errr...... each to their own. 5:1 compression......?

Anyway......... i'm sure you can impress me with it when its done

BTW 3 bar is approx 43.5 psi of boost - nice.

Well you see, everyone seems to want to run of std ecu's and std turbo charging systems. This is limits you to power.
ECUs can't hold enough information on them as they are made asthetically not practically.
Turbo charging the std way causes lag and a minimum of about 7:1 comp ratio.
Like I said when you do it properly you let the boost charge the cylinders not the engine.

you sound like one of the old school like me mate.

I use plastic pistons like in the good old days!! ive managed to build a few 3:1 comp engines but the plastic shortened con rods are very probitive due to cost

I regularly see 620bhp on the dyno

You use plastic con rods? They developed the ford plastic engine at my uni, never released it though I think.

What do you drive?

Sunny.
Do you have any idea what 178.8mph feels like in a Fiesta? 2000 lb of pressure per square inch per second pushing back on your face. It feels like god himself is trying to rip the skin off your skull while someone lands a 747 on your chest.

Did I say the whole of the plastic engine was developed? No. I just read a bit of stuff about it on a wall in my uni.

As to the std ecu comment, your ecu is std, probably got a different CPU in it (a chip to anyone that doesn't know). The "chip" doesn't contain an uprating on the memory so therefore that is the limiting factor. Run your car off a laptop and bobs your uncle, faster, more variable, more tuneable "chip"

A few "quotes" ago I wrote:

Then sunnyfrst replied:

I am sure theres a few people that know what I am talking about.

So I replied:

He replied:
pectel management

Now I'm interested in this last response in relation to his previous quote.

There are a few options here:

a) He took his car to pectel and they re-wrote their managment system for him and gave him a one off system with loom and sensors.

b) He took a std (standard) ecu and loom off a different car and put it in his fiesta.

personally I'd go for the latter.

Who knows what he is talking about anyway?

Hmm

Pectel offer a variety of ECU packages taylored to intended usage.

Sunnys pectel ECU is NOT a P8 blagged from an Escort Cossie.

Its one of Pectels motorsport ECU, which is deisgned exactly for this sort of usage.

To quote Pectel:

------
We have been a manufacturer of automotive electronic control systems for more than ten years. Our ECUs, wiring looms and logging equipment are used by a large number of motorsport teams and individuals all around the world, and many have benefited from considerable success with our products. We believe that the systems we produce are among the best in the world, and the success that our products have enjoyed, both recently and in the past certainly supports this view.

Pectel systems were used by the winning Nissan BTCC team in 1999, and are currently installed in this year's championship dominating Ford Mondeos. The Ford and Hyundai World Rally Teams also make use of Pectel ECUs in their respective cars.

-------

SO they are not "standard" ecus blagged from other cars, far from it.

In answer to your question, who knows what they are talking about, it appears Sunny does, and Ian Howell and Ahmed seem to agree with his choice of ECU.
