XR2I CONVERSION--ZETEC? RS2000? ST170? what's the best to go
I have just bought an xr2i 8v in red and stripped it apart from the dash, I'm just leaving 2 bucket seats and harnesses inside, I trying to hunt down some escort cosworth wheels but might settle with some mondeo lookalike ones. I've bought coilovers for it and I'm planning to put a 2.0 in it as the 1.6 rs turbo engines seems a lot of hassle as my brothers played abouts zetecing one in the past, so I'm going naturaly asperated at the moment and wanted to know what's the best way? Just a mondeo 2.0 zetec? Escort rs2000 engine or a focus st170? Does anyone know if my standard box with fit an st as their 6 speed? I know I need a different sump and pick up pipe to run any I think? And keep my water pump and alternator with bracket? And get the ecu with the engine I buy? What about the loom? And what inlet and exhaust would I need to run any one them? What do u guys thinks the best way to go and what do I need? I'm new to this so don't really know where I'm clicking lol so hopefully some1 replys thanks guys, Dave

ST170 i would say
You can make it fit your gear box easy
You will need ecu and loom if you want the standard inlet
The ST has a good exhaust manifold so use that and make up a new exhaust system

forgot the rs2000 lump, its heavy, and more involed to fit, and your gain nothing really over a 2 litre zetec, although you can fit the 2.3 galaxy bottom ends to them.
i agree with above, the st170 is the best one out the 3, although a normal 2 litre zetec is the easiest all round

Nice one guys! After doing more work to it I've decided to go all out and save up another month and get a complete zetec turbo engine, there's quite a few on ebay, including a MINT pume 1.7 turbo engine, ill post up pictures of my progress soon when I get a chance! Spending all my time on the body at the moment, she will be a spanker after I'm done with her. And either rs 7 spokes or escorts cosworth wheels are catching my eye, what do u lot think of the zetec turbos? Thanks for your replies guy much appreciated!

Can get good reliable power from the 1.8 ZTs too, but if you're buying an engine may as well go 2.1 and call it done
Nothing to see here...
