WARNING - scammer on the prowl on UK forums...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taken from another forum, but well worth thinking about.....

Theres a guy doing a scam at the moment on UK car forums. He posts up saying he has a garage full of car parts to shift, all very rare, desirable stuff. ANd great prices. Only accepts Paypal and if anyone wants to collect he goesa bit quiet on them. Usually claims to be rebuilding a V8 Landrover but whatever the forum is (Opel Manta, Mk1 Astra, Ford Escort) he's got piles of stuff for them from an old project.

Needless to say people get excited, pay him hods of cash by Paypal and then he disappears...

Examples of him in action

http://www.mantaclub.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11186

http://www.mk1oc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5219

he took the Escort guys for well over a grand before he was busted.

Please keep it in mind that forums are no more trustworthy than the local rag and probably far less safe than eBay.

Be wary out there. If it seems to good to be true it probably is and if someone won't play ball with cash on collection then run a mile.

TJ, I've moved this to parts for sale and stickied it so that more people are aware of it.

EDIT: I've now decided to put another sticky up in the General forum so that more people are aware of it. Also, the links have now been edited so that they're not dead any more.

Be cautious, everyone!
My name is Alex. I used to have a Capri. I don't anymore. But I'm still called Capri.

yeah, looks that way.
I paid on monday 25th jan (transfer) and was told the phone would be sent weds 27th. i waited until the first of february and then contacted him to say i haven't recieved it and was told he would go to the post office to check what was happening, was then told he had to ring them and let me know when he has any news. in the meantime i got a litle suspicious and googled the account number i was given
sortcode:77-51-12
account number: 39841168
this is when i discovered it was paul woodward.
i was given the name paul sadler, 3 barnes rd, widnes.
i then emailed him expressing my concern and got told he would provide proof of postage-i never recieved it.
it was left at that then when the phone still didn't arrive i was told i would recieve a full refund by monday/tuesday (8th/9th feb)
still had no refund even though i've been told it was transferred, checked with my bank and no transfer has been attempted.
i'm currently in the process of talking to the police but not holding my breath!

I Can't believe this T**T is still up to his old trick's :x whats it going to take to stop him?

This kids well known through out most car forums. He took me and many others for a ride over some coilovers about a year ago, long story short got in touch with his local police and they new plenty about him from the mound of complaints regarding these scams he'd been pulling, they took him to court and in the end he just got a slap on the wrist!! :x but his mother did pay me and others back.. So your doing the rite thing mate getting the police involved it worked for me but like i say it's the police in his area you want to speak to as my local lot didn't do "F" all..

Check this link out may be of some use..
