Rolling road went right this time
The car went back today, and I stayed with it all the time just to make sure It is now holding about 1.5 bar boost (about 23psi), and is giving no less than 150bhp. No torque figures sadly...it's a pretty old rolling road setup. The picture below shows road speed on the left (about 80mph in fourth) and power at the wheels on the right (it rose over 90 but I missed it). He had to stop as the temperature was climing - their fan wasn't too useful So it's a bit more than 150bhp.
Feels great, but I'm still after more out of it. No problems with the running whatsoever, so I'll be on the case Some pictures...
James.

And another thing...I looked at the invoice when I got back to uni today - I was told £150 for the rolling road tune, and it's come up as £250 on the invoice! I will be calling them first thing tomorrow. The guy who worked on it was a really nice guy, I had no problems with them at all, and no grumpiness from them. Only problem is my boost gauge only goes to 20psi Anyone wanna swap me a 30?!

Mike - September, it's on!
Gaz - Yeah I'll be doing a fair amount of research through summer, seeing what can be done with this engine to take it to the next level. Economy's amazing, just need a shedload more torque and some more power and it'll be a good un. Commonrail for 2006 perhaps....we'll see

Great stuff mate - you'll be snapping on my heels now!
Bloody weasels!
How much you hoping for in the end - so it's going to be more on the road when you're travelling at speed (considering their poor fan setup)
Cheers,
Andy

I'm not sure what plunger is in that Lucas pump, possibly around 10mm so i'm not enturely sure what BHP it will support. But I think it's time for a new turbo.
I'd be interested to see a VNT 20 on there, or even a 25 with some headwork, that would broaden the power band nicely as it's a little short with the current unit.

Rawli - I remember that comment about the boost gauge *slaps forehead*
Gaz and Excursion - I'll be looking into what can be done with this engine...I suspect I may be better of leaving it as it is and getting a more modern engine in time. If there are any not-too-expensive ways of getting the torque and power I need, I'll look towards those
Max - They're 90bhp in the Mondeo, mine was about 100 before the tune. Am calling insurers this afternoon - not gonna be nice
Andy - I guess maybe 160bhp on the road with air for two reasons. (1) He had to stop because of the temp build-up and (2) yes, proper high flow of cool air would help a lot. It's torque and revs I need from it really - longer gearbox would make it much more driveable.

Funkylicious! 150bhp.
Hey,just wait till you get a CommonRail Diesel.
Gaz is right they are just awesome, our Signum demo car is a 3.0V6CDti Common Rail, it easily beats the 2.0Turbo Signum.
Better consumtion,better emmisions.
*EDIT*
Spec on engine...
Description: 3.0CDTi V6 24v
Capacity: 2958cc.
Maximum power: 177PS (130kW) @ 4000rpm.
Maximum torque: 370Nm (273lb.ft.) @ 1900rpm.
Compression ratio: 18.5:1
Combined MPG - 38.7

Yeah, Commonrail would be lovely - I'll never say never to that
XR - If you know anyone with one of those, and they want a 20psi gauge, gimme a shout!

Just wondering, is it possible to fit dump valves to turbo diesels, and would there be any point if you can?

Yeah you can get dump valves, not that I'll be getting one, I like hearing the wastegate. It'll set you back £200-£300 though, as they don't work in the same way as petrol dump valves.
Mmo - I went to a rolling road with it, sadly Mark can't take credit for this bit! It's still using the standard turbo for now (T1.5 I believe), but I'm looking into my options, and want to get things shifting ASAP.

I removed the cat mate, and it's got a straight through 2i exhaust system. The I/C is Saab 9000. There was a bit of pressure drop through the cooler, i'd estimate 2-3 psi so 100bhp wasn't bad - if you put a bleed valve on and did yours bye ear I'm sure you'd get 110.

topstuff dude, these diesels really are making the moves with regards to performance increases over the last few years so respect for sticking with the diesel and not going petrol turbo
