Tweek's 5-Door II - Gone (27/10/12)
I think the later mk4 Fiestas etc. came with open ended wheel nuts. I know as I nicked a load from the scrappy with Maff a few years ago!
Maff was doing a gestapo walk with a Ka aerial down his trouser leg!

As the director of my degree course used to say: "Draw a f*cking diagram!". We all thought he was mad, but they solve everything
You don't have centre caps to worry about do you? Even so...studs protruding half a mile through nuts would look gash.

nope, although I can see why wheels have centrecaps, makes access much easier to the nuts! It's like cracking a safe trying to get hold of the nuts on these wheels
So yes, looks like the 47mm studs should, in theory, according my my scientific drawing, hold 5mm spacers if needed with a safe amount of thread left.
Problem solved, I hope. Sounds easy but I bet you something fucks up between now and the wheels finally going on the road

GRRRRRR
Studs, check
Oil, check
Filter, check
Sump plug from Ford, check.
Got the car all jacked up, attempted to undo the sump plug, it refused and proceeded to round off, c**t! ok, calming down I had a look around the floorpan for an inspection, tbh that didn't really cheer me up either. Found a hole on the drivers sill seal and rust around the passenger lower arm bolt.
Anyway, thought i'd might as well crack on with changing my wheel studs, after a few good hits I got one out, needless to say the new one wont go back in, or the old one for that matter, FFCS
Venting, calming down, will ponder what to do and go back out in a bit I guess. Pics:
Who the f**k puts a grade 5.8 bolt on a car, no wonder it fudgekin rounded.

Get some Stilsons or Mole-Grips onto that sump-plug mate and/or some heat too and it should give up in the end. Bloody things aint they?!
Halfords sell new sump plug kits for the zetec with the correct sealing washer too for only a couple of quid so it shouldn't be such a pain next time
As for the hole in the floor- welcome to the joys of Mk3 fiesta ownership!! I think most of us on here are fighting some sort of battle with the dreaded tin-worm on our early/mid 90's Fezzers

Right then, I collared my awesome neighbour into giving me a hand. He proceded to hammer & chissel the sump plug out, hurrah! Then i ended up with lots of holes in the oil filter as my neighbour stabbed it to death with a screwdriver because i was incompetant at using a strap wrench.
Anyway, sump plug out, oil filter off, new plug & filter, fresh oil, job done. Now left with oil absolutely fudgekin everywhere, I then realised that my oil pressure light doesn't work so that was more fun.
Onto the studs. Got one wheel done! They don't hammer in as i found out. Had to use a breaker bar, 2 ring spanners (well, 3 cos 1 snapped) to build up over the non-threaded part and screw a steel wheel nut on as tight as possible to pull the studs through. Still have the other 3 wheels to do yet but it's a start.
Anyway, much happier than I was a few hours ago. Will keep plodding on!

I just had a thought actually, I'm hoping the studs arent spinning in the hub. I was tightening the new wheel up, the locking one went tight, the other three just kept going, albeit very tight to turn, but they did keep going, hmmm, ah well, soon find out if it falls off.

i had to renew a wheel stud once, it was a piece of piss.
simply slot it through and with the wheel off put on a nut and tighten it until it pulls through.... wheres the grief in that
As for the oil filter you want to use the chain removal tool - much better as it dont slip.
These blonde hair people make a meal out of everything....

Got both front wheels sorted now, therefore more pics!
Oh, knuckles, problem with these studs is that the bit of stud with no thread on is bigger than the standard ones so have to bridge the gap with spanners which proceed to snap, damn cheap things.
First up, Tweek's Guide On How To Change Front Wheel Studs I'll let you try and work it out.
And doing this leaves steel wheel nuts looking like this; I mashed 3 in total:
Yummy old oil:
And finally, put the car in the road so I can have a level base to check oil on, looks quite nice. (excuse the front suspension height, only just dropped the car back down). Didn't wash the car, scrubbed the drive

lol i was scared of damaging the wheels, although after thinking about it I realised the alloy wheel nuts have a cone washer on them to stop that, ah well.

Observations:
Green Mk3 over the road
Half a human standing outside the porch of the house next to the green Mk3
Stop biting your nails
That is all
P.S. Those wheels are getting on there slowly!
