The Recaro Fiesta - the rebuild begins
Look what arrived this morning
It was like Xmas all over again ripping that wrapping off
4 weeks waiting isnt bad to make them from scratch. Had no idea burton would send them next day delivery to me as well.

focking hell
still next day-ish (plus 3 week 6 days) isnt a bad postage time
dont like the black with the white car, they would go far better on a red frst, one thats just had a nice fully rebuilt engine put in a nicely painted engine bay, and is owned by a diamond geezer on the isle of wight

Update !!!!
I got cracking today and did some more even though it was pouring down.
New spark plugs NGK copper core spark plugs were 1st on the agenda as they took 2 minutes with a handy spark plug socket.
Finished connecting up all water hoses and also fitted the hose joiner to connect the water to the T2.
The EFi inlet was bolted up with a new oil cooler hose from ford, as i didn't have the right hose. There is literally no space for your hand or a spanner behind once its all bolted up. Found my self climbing onto the front bumper and reaching behind giving me loads of cuts
Fitted the fuel line from fuel filter to the fuel rail. I had to remove the throttle to line this up properly on the fuel rail. Cheers stoke7up for sending this so quickly and jayrs for being on the blower to help me do fit it with ease.
The air box and amal valve was then connected up. I will add a k&n induction kit at a later date. There is again not alot of room to do up hose clips etc once it is all in the bay. Couple of samco's managed to see the light.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The header tank had to be replaced as i couldn't see liquid through it. Be rude not too !
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I Fitted a blanking plug to the head where a distributor used to be and then bolted up the coil pack with new bolts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The stainless hose clip literally touches the vacuum pipe on the T2. So i had to squeeze the vacuum hose in place with a retaining clip.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Getting there me thinks..... next the rad and cooler will be fitted and then i can fire it up
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comments as usual...

Update
I too have had my problems and did not succeed in starting the rs.
Thank you rob for quickly sending me a starter motor. Diamond geezer
The whole exhaust laid out - i think i got it wrong.
Trial fitted the magnex down pipe then couldn't fit the starter motor as it is too big .... off came the down pipe and on went the starter but this being a diesel starter motor it is a whole inch bigger in length compared to the xr2i motor. It also has a mounting bracket on the end which needs to be cut off before i properly fit it.
That brackets got to go....
I'm a bit concerned about the starter getting hot as the down pipe flange is only 10mm from the starter motor. it will get hot quickly and i may need to get the smaller item and wrap it in heat shrink or buy a ford heat shield for it.
Finally re-attached that handbrake cable , sort of ...
Need a c-clip for one side before i can do the rest.
This fuel neck needs changing for another one also as it has been cut to accommodate the mocal fuel filler flap. I may just smooth the bumper and forget about not having a rear tow eye as it will be a nightmare to weld a new one on.
Cut up on the inner so cant go back to the old ford cap.
More cable ties
Jayrs has kindly aquired a new filler pipe for me along with the mount for the bonnet catch as that is missing too.
This section of wiring needs to be cut and re-soldered as it seems to have melted through to bare wire.
On the plus side i fitted my cosworth 82 degree thermostat with no problems
Final pic of the day before i packed up tools

and the bits WILL be on the way to you this week.
the filler panle does look a bit mashed but should take the filler neck sort of alright from the looks of things, although it could do with a paint first though

Yep
That blue/black wire that's rubbed through is the switched live to the starter - was it you who said you had issues with the starter switched live not working, or am I muddling you with someone else?
If it were me, I would be having a tow eye put on. You never know when you might need it. There isn't really anywhere else you could tow off without beind the rear bumper sadly.

rob pace wrote:why not just unbolt it mate?
I tried that but when i undid the nuts the long bolts came out with it which holds the motor to the housing. Really need to get them on a vice and whip off the nuts on the end.
heeman - weld wires together - Wtf ???
purple-fiesta - half of me wants to but the other half somehow wants to keep the fame that came with this car
Jayrs - sort me out with those bits and you can have the chrome bonnet stay - good riddens. White bonnet hinges will be added later this year
