I'm still here !
May not be posting alot lately been doing alot to the property I've purchased back in July. The cars have taken a slight back seat whilst paying for decorating , carpets , plumbing , electrics , fridge etc. It's never ending moving in to your own place for the first time.
Cutlery , sofa , bed, furniture and so on.
I'm hoping to get a long weekend planned to go over to the iow early mid November to do a few bits to the Rs.
In the middle of applying for a new job atm too as I now have a Hgv class 2 licence to my name.
A lot going on in such a short period of time
Regards
Clark

Tbh I adore the frst for what it is, you cant compare the two, both awesome in their own right.

Trouble is ive an ST and cant imagine how slow the Fez is going to feel in comparison :(
Much like yours probs will compared too the saff lol.

Mind its going to be in serious s**t if I get my mk2 frs I'm planning on,
Although a saff or 3door are pipping that one even more ffs lol

Well it's been a while but the news is I finally have found a bonnet worthy of going on this car.
I went over to iow and me & jay spent a long time on the prep. Overkill don't come close to the amount of time spent on rubbing down , degreasing etc - masking up too. As we painted the underneath first.

I will let the pics do the talking...

Bonnet has not been wet flatted or compounded yet - only needed a few minor dings filling on the front - and no dents in the middle :D

Very pleased with the outcome & glad I waited to find a bonnet that didn't need a tub of filler on top to make it presentable.

Come on, get your finger out :bonkers:

In all seriousness, great work, looks like a very nice job!

Lol
In fairness the delay is on my part, I just haven't had any time to do anything to it, think up until Clark came over I spent about 2 weeks at the workshop this year.

And die to something happening with works, that's out of my control, looking at the foreseeable future, I might not even get much more than one more weekend down there this year :(

My recent Isle of Wight trip saw something amazing happen

The Rs began to be rebuilt :D :D :D :D

I will let the many pics do the talking

Image
Image
The mountain of parts

Image
Heater matrix replaced

Image

Image

Image

New cables going in - pedal box refitted with new bushes

Image

Jay refitting the brake bar & servo

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image
All old parts were rubbed down to remove rust & imperfections

Image

Image
Followed by etch primer & satin black

Image

Image

Image
Even the brake lines got a coat of green

Image

Image
Wipers repainted & rebuilt - fitted

Image
Loom was a headache - needed a lot of repairs

Image

Image

Image
Tank refitted

Image

Image

One big job was refitting the repainted lines to the car with the new ford clips - a few hours at least to get this right.

Image

Image

Image
Zetec s rear beam fitted

Image

Image
Trial fitting the exhaust heat shields - some of you may remember I had jay weld studs to the underside of the car to fit the late style shields.

Image

Image

Now the Zetec s beam doesn't acomodate the fixed brake lines that the mk3 has so jay fabricated new brackets & flared new brake lines to fit perfectly. Thus meant I didn't need to buy new longer rear brake lines.

Image

Image

Image

Rear brakes built up - all new ford Zetec s parts , cylinders , shoes & bearings.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Rack refurbished - refitted , & column back in

Image

Loom testing took place - to make sure everything still worked after repairing various bits.

Image

Engine bay loom laid in place

Image

Image
The last job I started before I came home was strip down the engine do this point to degrease it ready for black high temp enamel paint. I will be renewing the cambelt , tensioner & water pump as a precaution since its been sat since 2012.

Amazing work! Such attention to detail.

The loom was a mess even before I got it. Had various types of alarms and immobilisers fitted over the years, and a fairly substantial ICE install at one point. I did make it worse though (sorry!) with fan override switch, ignition cut etc.

Are the clocks the originals with the white Lockwood kit removed?

Shortly after I rebuilt it the first time round I bought a donor set of Frst clocks and dismantled the dials and swapped over the mileage counter to retain correct mileage. As the Lockwood dials had painted needles.

Loom is going back to original as much as possible. Found a scrap yard mk3.5 that I robbed a few sections from like the original ignition relay holder in the fuse box & original ford radio wiring loom connectors.

I even re wired the ford speaker wiring back to how it should be plumbed up :)

Currently going through small bits prepping and painting besides that go back on, as well as waiting in a couple new bits to arrive, then it will come together in a short time.
Got a lot of new and freshly painted bits to go on now

Certainly been a while with no update but there is some progress.
Mainly a mechanical update - a lot of parts needed cleaning stripping & repainting / replacing in some cases. Nothing is being overlooked as it's come this far now

Image

Image

Engine & box are back where they belong - jay worked hard getting all the yellow paint off the block , cleaned up the sump which had began to rust after being left for years with no use. Gearbox again got a strip down to metal and a fresh lick of silver enamel high temp paint. Block received the black gloss.

Image

Image

Image

Rad had the clean up treatment I'm replacing the escort Rs cooler with a fiesta Rs item - this is being modified to fit the T3 turbo. Jay has changed the angle of the bottom hose outlet.

Image

Image

New anti roll bar bushes & genuine Ford brackets fitted.

Image

Jay polished up the scorpion t3 system with some 3m scotch pads on a mini air grinder came up a treat

Image

Image

That was all fitted too :Q

Image

Brand new drive shafts from France fitted , refurbished Ford shocks with new Pi springs fitted. Brake calipers cleaned up painted gloss black enamel , discs cleaned up refitted. New drop links

Image

Eddie kindly got my spare rocker cover blasted & powder coated in the standard Ford grey
This will replace my yellow cover for a more standard looking bay.

Image

There was some rust showing through under the front of the car. Even sat inside a dry workshop rust still comes a knocking. Jay cut this offending piece out even though this wasn't there when car was painted.

Image

You would never of known it was there :Q
Welding ninja

Over the next few months when we get some nice warm weather - painting the front bumper , spoiler & few other bits then it's the final reassemble when I can next go over to the IOW :)

I have proper dragged my feet on this the last couple of years, has been for different reasons, but it's close and as clark says, with the warmer weather coming, it can progress quicker.
For those that don't know, my workshop is cold, even on the hottest summer day, you would think someone has air con going, which is great, unless you need to paint  colder months are a ball ache as it's not just cold, it's dampness, not a great combo for painting, and the lack of space unlike when I done my rs, has mean bits painted then moved later, to make room for more parts, other wise I could of done kits and bumper etc, all at the same time :( a mistake on my part with the XR in the way, but a mistake I won't make when the XR starts getting some attention, in fact I might just prime it and farm that out for spraying yet.

But as for the recaro fez, she's close, and with yet more changes at work, I might actually get a bit more time to be able to complete this, donmynien thing, and keep the wife happy
