cheers chaps, once the emerald is mapped id like to see the engine make 300 bhp the then back it off to around 260-280bhp...only real factor on this engine is its still on standard rods...steel rods will be happening but we have soo much to do/buy to build the whole car that this engine will be more to get the car working and tested...after that another will be built or this one will come back apart :)

today i trial fitted the intercooler to see what work will needed to make it fit. we are using the GRS escort s2 one we already had. this causes issues as the pipe work isnt in the best of location...

first off with the bumper

Image

as we need to make this fit lower than usual due to the pipe work and due to me not wanting to cut out the top of the bumper the tow eye had to go

Image

intercooler in approx position

Image

bumper back on

Image

still some trimming to do so the cooler sits a bit closer to the bumper.
the bottom pipe from the intercooler is a tad close to the gearbox craddle but will be ok once cut down

Image

Image

thats all for today :D

looking good mate.
what you planning to do about a tow eye now though?

you gunna leave it without one, of weld a nut in that lowe box section to have a screw in type tow eye like the later escort?

will be relocating the tow eye to a strap type on the end of a bar coming out through one of the fog light surrounds

looking lovely fella :)

if i went for front mount intercooler thats exactly how i would do it so i wouldnt have to cut too much out of the standard look of the car. There is nothing nice about how a massive grs looks bolted on the front panel :)

you could use a screw in type from the mk4/5 fiesta, could probably cut it straight from the front panel and weld it to the car, you can use the mk4/5 tow eye then :)

the bumper mounts look very trick!

I like the efforts being made for the front mount,
although personally I've always loved the look of a grs sticking out the front,

I'm thinking of going for a grs but I want it single pass and I want it extended
down as low as yours is hiding,

could you take a few more pics of your setup for me?
from the side underneath, so I can see how low yours is

*edit* forget the extra pics, sorry was looking on my iphone, your pics are already good enough haha*

Luke and I had the bumper mounts made from ali., They bolt onto the original holes,

All you do then is to drill a hole in the bumper and fix from the front thus making bumper removal fast and easy

if you look at thepics with the bumper off you can see the mounts, plus the bolt that holds the bumper on..just to add for people thinking of doing it this way the bumper first needs gutting of all the foam/metal and original mounts...

rob,the cooler will be going up so its all behind the bumper/splitter...just need to mod the bottom pipe... :)

good man!!! i'm hoping to have my xr2i on the road and track soon, so you might see me out there, mine is kinda inspired by UFO and by lukes trolley. its going frozen white and satin/matt black two tone. definately would like to have a turbo under the bonnet but the expense of it would be too much. i'm going budget for now having a 1.8 zetec to rag around till it blows then may get a turbo! can't wait to see how UFO turns out! keep up the good work matey!
