Possible group buy on Recaro parts / seats / retrims

Postby AdrianFRST on Sat Dec 17, 2005 1:17 pm

First of all you might have noticed a new banner for Capital Seating and Auto Trim. They are sister companies that specialise in seating and trimming. As well as being Recaro's UK repair centre they also stock a wide range of replacement parts for OEM Recaro seats like the FRST and RS 1800 ones. These include new bolsters, tilt levers and diaphragms.

They don't list Fiesta parts but here's the link for Escort ones: http://www.capitalseating.co.uk/product ... id=76&rid=

I've heard mentions that the Escort seats are wider. I don't think this is true though but I'll endevour to find out for sure.

In addition they offer the full range of Recaro aftermarket seats and accessories at prices below RRP.

Auto Trim have been in the trimming business for over 30 years and specialise in retrimming, trim repairs and also car covers and convertable hood repairs.

I've been speaking to Stephen at Capital about various ideas of mutual benefit to both them and the site and we've come up with an idea:

Group buy

But not your usual group buy!

If we can get an order together Capital will provide discount on a sliding scale - the bigger the order the higher the discount. Once we have everyone's order in they are bulk processed in one go.

This offer includes any products Capital or Auto Trim sell, so anything from a spare Recaro cushion to a retrim.

Discount up to 20% could potentially be available if we get enough people together. This post is just to test the water and see who would be interested?

They are ERST parts, I think the FRST ones are the same. I've heard the Escort seats are wider but I don't think that's true.

Capital will know for sure, or someone with access to both could measure them?

Cloth, leather, alcantara / suede or a combination? Just front and rear seats or extras like door cards and head lining?

If you can go into a bit more detail I can get a ballpark figure next time I speak to Stephen.

Great stuff - I'm pretty sure the Recaros are the same size, I have both so I can take some measurements.

Cheers,

It's Ford material not Recaro's so I'm not sure they would be able to help. I'll ask though.

I used Auto Trim for the piping on my seats, so can vouch for the quality and service:

They did me a good deal, I needed the base of one doing and the seat back of the other doing. They couldnt match the colour spot on (at the time, not sure now) so they re-piped the lot for the price of one seat basically. Cant remember an exact figure, but iirc it was around £70+VAT.

Worth getting a quote as this was a year or so ago

I've got some answers from Steve:

The Fiesta seats are not listed as they haven't been able to have a close look and determine what parts fit. If someone is local with a FRST or FRST seats then it would be great if they we able to pop along some time for them to take a look.

Leather retrims in top quality leather for front and rear seats plus door cards would be around £950+vat. They can do poorer quality for as little as £750+vat but they prefer to use the best leathers. You get what you pay for with trimming. I had cheap leather in mine and it was pretty bad.

Examples of Auto Trim's work include the "Revved Up" Rover 214 and the new Prodrive P2 due for launch at the Autosport show next year.

Escort Recaro's are definitely different. They don't look anywhere near as nice as the FRST ones. The ERST has more rounded bolsters and looks wider, FRST seats look much nicer and always had thinner bolsters (and no it's not the colour!).

I could do with a pair of the rubber/fabric pads which run under the bum-cushion as the rubber's torn on the driver's seat, meaning my butt hangs out of the bottom (anyone in the back can kick my ass, so to speak... :oooh:!).
