OK Guys Need Help Please 1.3HCS to 2 ltr Conversion
Right I really do need some guidance here guys. Lets start at the beginning:
1) So which dictates which? Does the Engine dictate the ecu, then the ecu the engine sensors? Or does the engine dictate the sensors , and they the ECU? How does this work, so you end up with the correct engine , sensors and ECU?.
Lets leave it there to start with, I do have a lot more questions, but answering this one will help me start moving I hope? We have fueling, cooling, braking (which I think I have covered) suspension, ( I think I have this as well). and more but if someone can answer this it will really help, as electrics are not my bag at all....

What year is your 1.3? Is it fuel injected?
Engine loom, you'll need a MK3.5 RS1800, 1.6 Ghia 16v, or 1.6 16v Si engine loom - basically any MK3.5 16v engine loom with internal EDIS (i.e. no external EDIS module). External EDIS looms (i.e. MK3 RS1800 or XR2i 16v) will not work with the Mondeo ECUs unless you modify the wiring.
If yours is injected, you can use your current car loom, but you'll need to make modifications. If it's not, you'll need to fit a car loom from a fuel injected model.
ECU wise, you'll want a DEEP, DESK or DEWY. All will work with the engine looms I mentioned above, and any Series 1 or 2 2.0 silver top Zetec will work with those ECUs. Just bear in mind if the engine is from an auto, you'll need to change your crank sensor housing as it's in the wrong place for the manual flywheel (which'll have to come from a Fiesta or Escort Zetec).
That'll give you a start

Hi Smo, thank you for that, I take it I will need to source and 1.8 engine as well? will this need to be the same series as the 2 ltr? Also what is the difference if any, between a series one, and a series two Silver Top?
Thanks Again..
Thanks Again..

You'll need to source a 1.6 or 1.8 engine (from an Escort or Fiesta) if you're unable to get all the odds and ends separately. By odds and ends, I mean sump, oil pick up, flywheel (and clutch - must match your gearbox type), inlet (alloy type, ideally from an RS1800 or XR3i 130PS, not late Escort plastic type - but please get a 1.8 one at least, with matching injector plate), water pump, water pump pulley, there's probably more. Nothing is series specific between silver top Zetecs in terms of ancillaries.
You'll need a CVH alternator and Zetec pulley if you use a CVH alternator mount, or simply a Zetec alternator if you use a Zetec mount. Ideally you'd want a Fiesta one - more so if you currently have PAS and want to retain it. You'll need a PAS mount if you do. If not, you probably want a mount from a MK3 Fiesta 16v, i.e. XR2i 16v or RS1800 (early).
The differences between Series 1 and 2 Zetecs are quite minimal; mostly revised head and hydraulic tappets and springs, I believe. Use the correct oil and you won't have any issues!

Hi Smo, I was thinking of the 1.8 just for the sump. I know I have to replace the sump on the 2 ltr, are you now saying I need all the other bits, of the 1.8, to bolt on to the 2 ltr? or am I misunderstanding you?
Thank You

Yes, you would need pretty much everything I mentioned there. Also, I just thought of it, you would need the dipstick and dipstick tube, too.
It's a conversion that used to be pretty easy because of the numbers of Sis, XRs and RSs being broken all the time, or people simply dropping 2.0s into 16v Sis, but now the MK3s are getting so rare, it's a lot more difficult getting the conversion parts necessary at sensible prices now

Hey how do you tell an internal EDIS loom from an External EDIS loom?
