Nick's ST

Postby dontpannic on Sat Jun 04, 2011 7:42 am

Cheers guys. The ride is absolutely fine, perhaps a little stiffer, but no more uncomfortable than standard. There's definitely something to be said for buying proper springs rather than GMax or chopping!

I only ever had three plans for this car, eibachs, k&n, and milltek exhaust. Other things are just going to come up as and when. The tyres will need doing shortly so I'm going for Toyo Proxes T1-R's all round and getting the car laser aligned at Elite in Rainham.

Axel spacers (12.5) will probably be on the cards at some point though!

Dont go for t1-r's, if you can get the uniroyal rainsports or kumho ecsta's cheaper. The problem ive had with toyos is the sidewalls bulging randomly

I've never had a problem with the t1r's. They seem to wear really well and plenty of grip too

Kumho Ecsta KU39's have pretty good reviews... quiet, good grip levels, and I can get them for £52 a corner. Uniroyals are £80 a corner, Toyo's are £70 a corner.

I've got another month or two on these tyres (spoke to local tyre place) so will decide then. It'll be new tyres all round, then up to Elite in Rainham for four wheel laser alignment. Worked wonders on my old car, transformed it.

Can't really do 4 wheel alignment on a fiesta. Rear beam means there's nothing to adjust at the rear, all you can do is check the alignment of the rear and the thrust angle. The toe on the front is all that can be adjusted which doesn't need 4 wheel alignment for, but it is always nice to see what each wheel is up to

Well, laser tracking, more accurate than the regular light bulb tracking methods. Only cost £30 for my old car, plus they straightened the steering wheel for me

I had my 4 wheel alignment done today on the focus with one of those bluefin kits with a proper 3d readout on the screen and its loads better. When i put new track rod ends on one was 13 turns and the other only 10 so the whole rack was over to come side by about 3 turns althaugh tracking true the steering wheel wasn't right. Its loads better now the rears have been done too and running a nice touch of negetive camber all round acording to the computer due to the suspension set up I have on :) (doesn't cause alot of wear on the inners luckily).

May I suggest you go to http://www.camskill.com and order your tyres from them and get a local garage to fit them as it will save you an arm and a leg I payed £10 a tyre for fitting and got 18" falkens at £59 a tyre from camskill for my mondeo. I am currently running falken ZE912 ziex on both cars and they are a really nice tyre. I likes the rainsports but they are really soft and didn't seem to last very long.

They do look a lot better in the flesh Ollie, I can understand why you don't like them though, but then it wouldn't be modifying if we all did exactly the same things. I only have my fogs on when its foggy but them being yellow makes a massive difference to visibility in those sorts of conditions.

By the way, an update if you will, but externally, this is it now, its not going to change :)

On another note, does anyone know what the standard colour for the fog-rings are? I think its Moondust (same as the wheels). They need to be resprayed and tarted up but want them in standard colour.

Yea fair play Nick, its something different I guess just not my thing. Would make sense being better in the fog thaugh as thats why skiing goggles tent to have a orange/yellow tint to help you see better in white out conditions. Who know they might grow on me the more I see them lol.

Nick's ST

Postby dontpannic on Fri Jul 01, 2011 7:54 pm

Had new tyres fitted this morning, Toyo Proxes T1-R in 205/40/17 :)

Grip seems better (tyres aren't run in yet) however the road noise has substantially reduced!

Now over to Elite in Rainham in the morning for laser alignment :)
