They stop people using the interior door handle to open the door, so it prevents people bending the door frame and getting in so easily. Pretty worthwhile on the Mk3 given how flimsy the upper doors are :)

Well, it doesn't prevent them bending the door back!

I would say if anything it would make a tea leaf bend it more. but in saying that if they can't get the door open they can't bend it back and will defo stand out driving down the road with the door hanging out at the top which would certainly improve the chance of getting caught. But lets be honest the amount of car theives that use traditional methods of stealing cars is limited to kids who have not got a clue. Cars are stolen by means of burgulary and retrieving keys these days so no door bending is required and if someone wants a said car bad enough they will take it anyway no matter what secuirity you have :( :( :(

No, it doesn't, but scum would have to bend the door way out to actually climb in, so far that it would smash the glass. More noise, more trouble, so deadlocks definitely buy you some time and increase the chances of the thieves being caught.

Basically jon the thief would not be able to open the door full stop and his only way in/out would be to brake the glass. Another thing that is over looked on the fiesta is the fact that you only got to bend the door a little bit to get a stick, pole what ever the thieving scum chooses to use to pop the boot via the centre switch inside or does the 3.5 have deadlocks in the boot also :-? :-?

not sure on the boot, hitting the button sounds a bit optimistic, is go for the handle, we locked our selves out of our old civic, and were were trying to pull the door handle with a looong wire,

on that topic mine has the ford alarm too which I know is linked to the boot aswell as the bonnet,

I am not entirely sure mate, because the deadlock loom feeds into PATS. It may work standalone but I'm not 100% certain on that so I'd have to try it. It's a big parts list, but things like the door looms and switches, lock barrels etc. are easily found on Mk5's in the scrapyard. Parts list:

Mk3.5 specific
Siren,
Deadlock module,
Mk3.5 Tailgate latch
Mk3.5 boot handle/lock barrel
Deadlock tailgate wiring.

Mk 3/4/5 Compatible
Deadlock motors,
Door looms,
Lock barrels to suit deadlocks
Lock barrel switches
Bonnet lift sensor
Tailgate latch switch
Tailgate lock sensor

Sunroof
New Ford Mk5 Fiesta sunroof ordered.
Image

The new sunroof (top) has tinted glass whereas the old (bottom) version had a mesh of ceramic coating. The new version is nice because it lets a lot more light into the car but offers the same level of Sun protection.
Image

Fitted.
Image

Armrest Complete and Fitted
Here's the kitchen extractor fan ducting trimmed to suit the Focus console.
Image

I wanted to paint the armrest plastics to match my interior trim, so I used thinners to remove as much of the VW soft feel paint as possible, and then a Scotch pad to give a good key for the paint. I used plastic primer and then matt black as a base coat.
Image

For the colour matched paint I found a company in the States called SEM who produce 'Classic Coat' flexible coating specifically designed to be applied to plastic, vinyl etc. I found out that some US market vehicles were produced with the same trim colour as the Mk5 Fiesta interior so I ordered a can to suit.
Image

The results were fantastic, it really is a superb product that serves to show how far DIY paints and coatings have come in the last ten years or so.
Image

Armrest fitted.
Image
Image

Mk 4 Golf armrest, Mk1.5 Focus console, and Mk5 Fiesta dashboard :) The handbrake handle isn't fitted here because I've just sent it and the steering wheel away to be re trimmed in Alcantara with a stitching to match the leather colour.
Image

Interior Door Handle Illumination
I chose to use new interior door handles from a 'Ghia' model, as these are chrome rather than black plastic.
Image

I drilled the bottom of the door handle mount to make an interference fit for the Audi A6 illumination LED.
Image

The outer trim cover was also drilled, but with a smaller hole so that only the tip of the LED is exposed inside the handle recess.
Image

I removed the standard Ford tweeter and enlarged the hole to fit the Seas tweeter.
Image

Driver's Door Completed
Inner door skin vibration damped.
Image

Midbass driver fitted and stainless screws painted matt black.
Image

Audi wiring plugs soldered on to suit the A6 door illumination loom.
Image

New Ford door 'foil' waterproof membrane.
Image

Membrane fitted.
Image

BMW trim clips fitted and door card cut to accept the Audi A6 puddle and marker lights.
Image

I used self adhesive cable clips to hold the Audi door loom neatly against the Fiesta door card.
Image

I tried an additional sound deadening layer behind the door card, but alas, it didn't fit.
Image

Door card fitted.
Image

Marker light. The puddle lights are out of sight on the bottom edge of the door card.
Image

Close up of Seas tweeter and handle illumination LED.
Image

Misc. Parts
RS Accessory light clusters are no longer available so I refurbished a second hand set. I put them in the dishwasher to clean the insides, and for the outside I used Epoxy resin to fill in the various mould indentations, and then sanded off the casting marks and excess resin with 120 grit. I finished with 1500 wet and dry, G7, T cut, and then Autoglym polish. I left the Ford logo in tact because these are rarer than Hella produced versions, and also an E Mark in the bottom corner to satisfy any strict MOT testers.
Image

Now I know that cruise control will work, I ordered a new Ford CC retrofit kit for the Mk1 Focus.
Image

I found out that the ST170 Focus had real leather gear lever and handbrake lever gaiters, so I ordered those.

Looking awesome as usual mark can't be long now its all coming together quite quickly.
One question for you. The Bmw door card clips you used do they pull the card tight and flush with the door because when you first posted about them many moons ago I ordered some and they sit proud about mm or so and there is a slight gap all the way around the card. I tried removing the foam but that made no difference and the I tried fixing them to the card with the second recess but you can see the buldge then through the card. I suppose on the upside they are proper on the door and don't unclip as easy as the ford ones. Feel free to call me a dick if I am doing something stupid

Cheers mate. I haven't noticed that myself but then the Mk5 door cards might be different to mk3 in that respect. I will go out later on today and play around with a spare clip to see how they are on mine.

The arm rest looks the part now it's trimmed up and finished at the bottom, and I bet the handbrake handle and steering wheel will look spiffing with the black/tan combo! :)

I don't know about the A6, but the A3/S3 interior door handle illumination consists of an LED and a clear plastic "lens", which sits up at the top of the concave handle housing, filling the housing with light from above. With the LED at the bottom of the housing, and without a lens, it looks quite vulnerable, and susceptible to be being knocked and nudged each time the handle is operated. Perhaps it's just the way it looks in the photos? Good idea though. I nearly bought a full half-leather/BOSE interior from an S-line A3 for mine, which had the handle illumination/puddle lights etc, and was looking forward to having that particular lighting feature on my door handles!

Cheers guys :D

Cruise Control Sensors
The Focus CC system requires three pedal position sensors/switches: brake light; clutch pedal position; and a brake force sensor that is shared with the ESP system when fitted. The original Mk3 Fiesta pedal box comes only with provision for a brake light switch, as can be seen below (not my image):
Image

I had already updated to a Ka pedal box with hydraulic clutch and clutch position switch to suit the later EECV engine management system that I will use to run the fuel pumps, fans, and other ancillary features. The Ka clutch switch happens to be interchangeable with the necessary Focus item, so that just leaves the brake pedal sensors. I will address this by adapting the Ka pedal box with parts from a Focus pedal box.

The Ka pedal box is on the left in the following photo, and on the right is a Focus pedal box frame and sensors that I bought from a scrap yard:
Image

I cut out the original Ka brake light sensor mount and welded in the same section from the Focus pedal box.
Image

There is a tab on the Ka brake pedal which actuated the brake light switch, so I extended this to cater for the dual brake pedal sensors. I created little 'bumps' out of weld to help with sensor actuation. I tested everything with a multimeter once fitted to ensure all sensors worked as required.
Image

Pedal box painted in satin black and Focus sensors fitted. Another job ticked off of the list.
