Mk5 rear beam, quick answers needed please.

Postby s1chris on Wed Feb 25, 2015 4:52 pm

Hello, I have been reading many different thoughts etc on the MK5 rear beam and focus disc conversion.
So have a couple of quick questions, also, I'm not bothered about the "extra" strength of a ZS beam.

1) I can use and mk5 beam as long as it is the correct/same shock mounts? Yes or no?
2) which focus rear discs and stub axle etc can I use? Any from the mk1?
3) Spacer plate. What's this all about?

Cheers Chris

Ok, I now own a full set of ST170 rear brakes and a standard mk5 beam.
I'm probably going to stick the ARB from the RS onto this beam anyway so not worries about it not being a ZS one.

So as I see it, all I now need is an RS2K handbrake cable and the spacers?
Still, what are and what is the purpose of these spacers I hear of?

Cheers Chris

the spacers are there because the rs2k cable is too long and they take up the extra slack so that the handbrake works

there isn't really any difference in the mk5 beam and the ZS one, you wont need to use an ARB on it

I made my handbrake cable when I did this set up but I fitted a mk5 handbrake lever as well (it involved a lot of measuring, cutting, more measuring, reusing end caps from the cut cables and then finding a company that had the correct ends and got them to fit the ends on for me)

Great info thanks, I won't be fitting the ARB then.

Do you have any pictures of the spacer? Or at least where i should be fitting it?
I'm struggling to picture where it should go.

Also do you know if the beam mounts are the same as the mk3?
I've got some poly bushes and would like to fit them.

Have a look here in regards to fitting spacers and fitting...
http://www.fiestaguides.co.uk/content/f ... discs.html

When I fit mine I left the mounting brackets (4 bolts) on the car and just swapped the beams over using the single pivot bolts, I cant see why the bushes wouldnt fit, take some measurements of both before changing and if both are the same size go with it

Now it's clear what I need to do, thanks.

Not quite sure why I've never come across that site before, but already my next question on Mondeo Brake servos has been answered lol.
