No addins installed, plain vanilla testing base. Goes through login process then returns you to a un-logged-in state upon refresh.

Scrub that, it's a cookie import issue in firefox - some sites are okay, others bork. This one borks. Note to self, don't allow firefox to import passwords or bookmarks in the future, it imports ruddy cookies too.
Upon startup go to firefox menu, options, privacy, then delete your cookies. Seems to be relatively common for phpBB sites.

As above mate, it's a cookie import issue - my own fault for installing software at this time of night and not reading what the installer said it was going to do, of this I'm sure.
Firefox uses a different page rendering engine to Chrome (Gecko vs Webkit) so in the interest of testing sites, it's worth having both installed (as well as IE which really isn't that bad these days). It used to be handy to have Opera installed too (as it's small and fast) but they're moving to Webkit too now so no point in hanging onto it.
Happily my copies of windows 7 are legit
