lightweight SI-UPDATE 22/7/15 BLAST FROM THE PAST!

Postby PMK3 on Tue Nov 21, 2006 12:36 pm

Right thought i'd start a thread about my fiesta project car which is now getting underway.Ive had my 1.3 fiesta on the road for a year now and the styling of it just doesn't appeal to me anymore,my opinions on smoothed tailgates and badboy bonnets have changed somewhat from when it was being built.I didn't feel it was worth pumping anymore money into a 1.3 so was on the look out for another fiesta shell as i already had a few bits which i intended to use on the 1.3.So we came across a ash black 1.4 SI,with NSF damage but otherwise the shell was solid as a rock, and it was cheap-ish.the plans are to strip it,cage it and trackday it next year, unfortunately i dont have the money or space to have two cars so this will be my daily driver as well.Engine will be 1.6 CVH,twin DCOE 40'S,bit of headwork and 4-2-1 and system.sorry for the essay, hers some pics of the car as we got it and the progress so far.any comments welcome guys.cheers steve

and the dash as it was left yesterday.going over in a bit after picking up my rocker cover from the powder coaters so will take some pics of the progress.

cheers mate :D

went over today and got a bit more done.lined the cage up to see where the base plates for it needs welding.refitted the modified dash, its been cut about so that it can be removed if needed with the cage remaining in place and its saving weight so its not a bad thing.I flatted down 3 of the wheels ready for painting and went to the scrappy to get a few odd bits and bobs.

hopefully gonna get over there tomoz afternoon and get the wing bolted and welded on and prime up the wheels.

will hopefully get some pic.cheers steve

yeah mate, got the basic engine off one of my uncles mates, and ive bought the extra parts for it.basic spec:

over bored XR3 block,freshly rebuilt
ported and polished head
kent CVH22 cam
kent adjustable vernier
twin 40 DCOE's,inlet will be machined to match head
facet red top pump
filterking FPR
janspeed(?) 4-2-1 manifold,wrapped

gotta stip the head down and get it pressure tested and skimmed, then gonna rebuild it with new tappets, and valve springs,at the same time of the head going in the flywheel will be lightened and balanced.

cheers steve

update:

Not had a chance to get much done recently due to working silly hours and the weather being s**t,but managed to get over to it yesterday.I stripped down the front brakes and suspension.the nearside caliper was siezed so we got an exchange unit for it.Its going to get built back up with new components, new disks, pads, braided hoses, copper lines and wheel bearings.fitted the rear braided hoses and removed the old rusty standard exhaust. The calipers have been given the hammerite treatment whilst they were off.Just waiting on the disks to arrive then the front can be assembled and I can move onto the back.Hopefully more progress over the coming weeks.

cheers guys, yeah its getting there slowly.will be good to build up the front,The back brakes/suspension don't need alot just a check of the shoes/cylinder and de-dust it.Also forgot to say the base plates for cage are now tacked in so it can come out and be painted along with the wheels and strut brace.
