Italian Ford Fiesta Van

Postby fede fiesta van on Tue Sep 13, 2011 4:49 pm

Hello! I'm Federico, I'm Italian and I'm a new member of the forum. I've got a 1993 Ford Fiesta van 1.8 Diesel. Normally I drive a 2010 Renault Twingo, but I like Ford's very much so I use the Fiesta very often. It has 183000 kilometres, but at 178000 I have changed the engine with an mk4 1.8 endura-de because I broke the camshaft. Next I gave her a mini-restoration. My family had this car since 2003, and I've always love it :). We use it every day and it never has got problems. In winter, it climbs on the snow like a 4x4 :D. Sorry for my not perfect English, but I'm a student and I will learn more. :). I will post the pictures of my fiesta and its restoration.
Greetings, Federico.
Here is my Fiesta, what do you think :)?
Exterior: Rear windows tinted (Ford original, no films), under-bumpers painted in matt black, rust removed. Some imperfections are caused of its age.
Standard interior with Kenwood CD player, Alpine amplifier under the driver seat and Ciare subwoofer (not in photo)
Engine: EGR removed, 1.8 Endura-De year 1998.

nice clean fiesta :)

snapped camshafts are very common on the diesel engines.
even the new ford diesel lumps eat snap cams and throw rods though blocks

try resizing the pictures a bit before uploading more... my laptop nearly had a heart attack

Sorry for my pictures, next time I will resize them :). When I broke the camshaft, the car stopped when the engine was at the idling speed. I opened the bonnet and I saw that the timing belt was broken. Then I put off the cam cover, and I saw that the camshaft was snapped. I don't know which of the two components were broken first, the camshaft or the timing belt. What do you think about that?

what may of happened is the belt snapped due to age which then stops the camshaft turning. Pistons carry on moving forcing the camshaft to bend and snap

the belt is a common problem for most cars if they are not changed when they should be.

I think so, because the belt was a little bit old. I replaced the engine and now the car goes very well :)

the hardest part about them engines are the timing of the fuel pump.
if your a fraction out the engine will run like a bag of poo

Thank you :) the previous owner used the fiesta to carry meat for sale :) He was a butcher :D. Now I use the fiesta every day like second car :). Can you tell me if in England is there any Fiesta with rear windows tinted like mine? Mine are tinted by Ford, no films :)

lovely looking fiesta.

I love the way there are hatchback cars that are 'vans' but still have the rear windows in mainland Europe. I saw loads of them in Portugal last month. I saw ten mk 3 fiestas in one half hour road trip. Not so many here any more.

Well done with the engine conversion. Looks very clean.

Hello! :) Here is a little update: my car had the injector return pipes that were losing diesel. They were a little bit old and cracked, so I decided to change them.
As you can see, there are spots of diesel near the injectors.
Image

I bought a piece of tube to replace them
Image

My old tubes were all cracked
Image

Here are the new tubes :)
Image

This is a very simple work, but I think that it's important because in my opinion if those tubes aspire air the car goes in trouble in each cold start.

Hi! here's a Little update ;)
The winter is coming so I decided to clean the air filter and give a charge at the car's battery. Then I also gave a quick clean at the interior and at the exterior (sorry for bad pics)

The filter, that I'm going to replace soon.

It's time to snow in Italy!! In my city there is more than one meter of snow!!
Here is my fiesta in the snow: Image
This morning I lifted the car with the Ford jack to mount the snow chains and the car fall down the jack!! :x
The result is the sill a little bit dented on the left side :(
I think that this spring I will carry my car at the body shop for a little repair. Also my left door was already dented in the past (you can see in the photos). So I will repair the damage definitely.

in italy, we are allowed to travel at 60 km/h with chains. But it depends by the street conditions. If there is not much snow, it's better for you and for your car to go at a lower speed.

This week the car has passed the biennal testing :). In Italy, every two years, we have to pass this test. (I think you call it MOT) Every part of the car is ok. I haven't time to wash the car and if I had washed it, after a little road driving it would be more dirty than before, because with the snow the streets are very muddy and dirty
Pictures (very tidy car   )
I took off my wheel trims because I didn't want to ruin it more than they are already ruined. I think I'll probably buy a set of spares Ford wheel trims. What type of Ford 13'' trims do you think that are nice on my car?

Italian laws about cars in my opinion aren't very fair. For example, I have a set of 15'' alloys that only need 195/50-45/15 tires and I can't fit them unless I make a series of procedures that allow me to approve the wheels on the car.
the car with those wheels will look much better, but the process is very bureaucratic.
This is a picture with them on with 205/55/15 tires :)

Thats a strange rule, you can basically do what you want with wheels over here, as long as they dont stick proud of the bodywork or rub
