[info] How do I know if it is an RS1800 engine?

Postby winterracer on Wed Jan 19, 2005 7:42 pm

I'm looking at possibly buying an RS1800 engine for my si but all the good ones seem to be miles away which would mean it would be cheaper to courier it instead of collecting, can anyone tell me if there is a way i can verify that the engine is an RS1800 and not a 105bhp model? ie engine number etc

I just thought that rs1800i was just a stock 1.8 16v maybe with a few tweaks you'll pay extra for that rather than just out of an escort 1.8 16v why don't you get in touch with car transplants they will have loads of 1.8 and 2.0 16v engines

its going to work out at the mo that an rs1800 engine is £50 more than an escort one, but then i would have to swap over bits from my fiesta's engine to make it fit which means buying gaskets and then to get it to 130 brake i would need to buy a 2.0 throttle bodie and cams.

I think i'll stick to paying £50 more

oh and btw if anyone does want to know how to find out the type of engine i found a guide :

The engines have the cc size stamped on the side but the power output is on sticker on the air pipe and wears off. However there is a stamp on side of the cylinder block (gearbox side) which will tell you exactly what engine you have got. The following is a decode:

Escort/Orion/Fiesta

First letter/number

L - 1.6
R - 1.8
N - 2.0

Second letter/number

I/1 - 66kW/90 bhp (65kW/88 HP on certain models)
D - 77kW/105 bhp
K - 85kW/115 bhp
Q - 96kW/130 bhp

Mondeo

First letter/number

As above

Second letter/number

I/1 - 66kW/90 bhp (65kW/88 bhp on certain models)
K - 85kW/115 bhp (82kW/112 bhp on certain models)
G - 100kW/136 bhp

The third letter is the emission standard apparently B & J are the latest standard.

If you have no luck gettin an RS1800 engine I do have some 130ps cams from a 2.0 I want rid of as I have piper cams in mine. Would want about £70 for them with pulleys and followers.
