dont be silly mate  thats what makes it "his" he will sell you the chip, but the chip will more than likly have a protection on it to stop people reading it and then making a load of FCR and passing them off as there own

that depends on the chip itself most dont have copy protection but you have to have right sort of reader to read most. i dont think yours will mike

Re: home made fault code reader, how to make one
i dont mind making some for people, but i would want a few people that would want one to make it worth while, cos of the cost of the bits, and i would have to put something on for my self, i wouldnt do just 1 really mate.
plus for the cost of the bits i would want money up front before i ordered the stuff to build them.
still, i aint gunna push it though, im not a trader and dont intend to make shed loads, but a few would be ok

Re the 9 pin d plug - you could easily use a 8 or 9 way panel mount mini-din instead - it's slightly fiddlier to fit but means you can use a battery too and have a removable interface cable.
Nothing to see here...

Re: home made fault code reader, how to make one
no mate.
i did download the software, but never used it, as my reader broke, it accidently got switched on whil sat on top of the printer and by the time i found it, the battery was dead, and it killed the display i tested bits and bobs, and the guy that even designed it offered to have a look and he concluded, as i did, the screen was dead.
that was some years ago now, and it still sits in a box unfixed another thing i have to get round to doing

Thats a shame..
Would/does the software you downloaded give you the faults codes then..eg say 01001 crank sensor, 01002 injectors, 01003 air temp..........?
That how it actualy works and what its meant to do then?

Re: home made fault code reader, how to make one
i built one of these for my car and works great, i even compared the tests with a different code reader and got the same results, its easy to build and is worth the costs, i am currently building a second one (just cuz i can as i got spare parts left to do it)
i never got the software working but i did manage to rip the code list from it, i have them as a word doc if anyone wants them but are easily available on the web search eec iv 3 digit codes list

yup im waiting lol, nah tbh mate im genuinely interested in doing one as would really help when the time comes to repairing my loom, aswell as checking if the ECU's are doing as they should.

i couldn't get it to work myself but... i think it just pulls the stored codes from the test onto your pc and gives you the meanings of the found fault codes...
