That's the most pointless thing I've ever heard!

You do realise N20 has a higher molecular mass (is denser) than air?

...or u could just tell us, cos I really can't b arsed 2 go looking. Would the extra density help the handling cos the wheels are slightly heavier meaning more grip? or am I talkin out my arse? :-?

I did.

I just asked a fully qualified Chemist with around 40 years experience as to any advantages that this would offer.

"None" was the answer.

I know NASCAR's do or did phil there tyre with Nitrogen if i remember rightly.

When tyres get warm there shape changes.

Nitrogen helps to keep the tyre a lot more stable and cooler.

As for Nitros Oxide......fook knows! Waste of laughing gas!!!!!!!

race cars etc use it, for one its not heavier, its alot tuffer than air so it dont squash tyre if you get me as easy still does but not as bad, and yeah it does mean you feel the bumps a touch more, but the main reason for using it is for handling, when you drive ur car hard or you drive long journeys etc you tyre generates heat, the nitrous is cold therefore it defeats the heat and keep your tyres cool, like thingy said nascars use it cos they do like a zillion laps it helps cool the tyres and maintain traction/handling, you can mix it with air too so you dont have to pay to keep your tyre preasure right, unless you do it urself and top it up with nitrous.

id imagine its quite expensive well more expensive than air neway and aren't all those benefits wasted on a normal road car, not really gonna make the differnce is it like it mite in a NASCAR !

Can you say "gullible" ;)

At 200mph round Indianapolis it may give you an advantage, but on the substantially less banked roads of Blackpool I somehow think it's not quite as effective.

Plus as Si says, you've no way of knowing if it really is Nitrogen!

I think someon's laughing all the way to the bank...

 Harsh git! I must say though, surely nitrogen is cold when stored in its liquid form, but as soon as you release it into the atmosphere it's going to match the atmospherical temperature? You say nitrogen's "tougher"?! huh?! Pressure is pressure, so whatever pressure you put in with nitrogen is the same as air pressure. It's a bit like "Which is heavier, a tonne of feathers or a tonne of zetec engines?", it's all the same in the end. I don't wanna step in the queue to say it...but

Apparently, nitrogen is totally pure and isn't contaminated by water. As a result, you get a perfectly even, and predictable tyre pressure, and can predict how it will change with heat, in F1 cars perhaps, NOT in a Focus that tops out at around 125mph! So as for "feeling the bumps more", erm....again, I'd have to say
