It looks like a child has been let loose with a Die Grinder! The ports aren't even symmetrical.

thanks for that but you are wrong im no child and you can clearly see the pic is not straight,i could take the same pic of that port and make it look off to the other side.

It's nothing to do with the angle of which the photo was taken; an offset angle would result in more shadow on one side, not an illusion of greater width. This is basic stuff. Photo's show nothing other than what effect your tool of choice had on the surface of the port, which is largely irrelevant to flow.

I'm not out to pick fault with what you've done, just there was some good advice earlier on in the thread which you advocated, but now seems forgotten.

It can benefit us all if you post the flowbench results from your experiments rather than pictures of the ports themselves.

ok so why do these two look so off set ? if its got nothing to do with the angle? there the same port from both sides ,i cant see the pic on the lcd screen before i take the pic as its to dark in the port.

just head work the rest of the engine will be as it was ,done a few things to the car to help put the power down but they wont make any difference to the trap speeds thats all down to power :) your right about the camera tho :aaah: but its not high on my list lol.
will have some flow results before and after at different valve lifts on monday and i will put them up good or bad :-? that head is only a practice one like i said from the start.

cool :D looks like i have taken a lot more metal out of my exhaust ports but mine is for a turbo'd engine and the exhaust side is a big restriction on my car.

A friend that does heads wants to machine the Zetec head and fit some standard size inlet valve in the exhaust size and match the ports for the valves to increase spool for the turbo

i was thinking that the other day , have you seen the flow tests of the evo heads?? they flow the same inlet and exhaust side :o and are good for 600hp standard. there about 135cfm the same as the inlet side on the zetec head thats why ive gone so big on the exhaust there only about 100 cfm :(

I seen that trick with the inlets in the exhaust side before on the zetec so its nothing new that i have seen

Not seen the any flow tests of the evo b head but i'm sure Ian Howell will be doing some soon

Do you know what lift is for that figure? 10 thou?

was at .500 on the evo and .462 exhaust and .424 inlet on the zetec :)

ill take a head down to my machine shop and see about putting inlet valves in the exhaust side :D

Sorry didn't mean 10 thou  meant .500 as you said

Not 100% sure of what was needed to fit them but i think it did need new seats fitted and valve reliefs in the combustion chamber around the valves to help with flow

Whats the size of the exhaust ports?

What sort of tools are you using to port the head?

if i were to get hold of a spare head would it just be a case of setting up on an angle plate on the vertical miller and stick a slot drill down it or ream it followed by a good polish?? i always thought there was far more to it than this....??
