Guide to Fitting XR/RS skirts/arches to a standard fiesta...

Postby eXtreme-fiesta on Sat May 24, 2003 9:45 pm

The skirts and arches are fairly straight forward, but i will make this guide to show you how to do it so you cant go wrong.

Obviously your kit should consist of two front arches, two rear arches, and two side skirts.

The smaller of the two arches go on the front of the car, and the larger of the two go on the back of the car, and obviously il leave it to you to guess where the side skirt goes :bonkers:

Here is a little diagram ;

Image

To stick them on, i put two or three self tappers on the inside of the arch, i used 5mm wide ones and they were about 25mm in length. Make sure you put them on the inside of the arch though as you dont want them to be showing, but obviously to do this you will need to take off the wheels to be able to get a suitable size screw driver in to tighten them up. Along with the self tappers i did use sikaflex at the time when i bought them but didnt think much of it, so i went to b&q and got something called EVO-STICK and a clamp, and its worked a treat. I put this evo-stick all the way along the inside of the arch, and just held them in close for about 2 hours with the clamp, and they are perfect. If on the other hand, you do not have a clamp and dont want to spend one of the best 8 pounds of your life, there is the option of masking tape, but obviously you do not get it to fit as nice, as the resistance peels the masking tape off! So thats that done!

Image

Image

As for the side skirt, make sure you do this last as these basically just slide on over the bits of the arches. You could either use rivets or self tappers again to secure these on, i didnt use any glue for them as i didnt see the point, but i know other people who have so the choice is yours obviously. I think the recommended way to put the skirts on is to rivet the top of them, and screw them in at the bottom, but its not the end of the world if you dont have a rivet gun and use self tappers all the way, they wont budge!

Image

Let the glue and everything to dry for 24 hours or so preferably with the clamps on, and you should get a finished outcome of this;

why would it rust?

Its just like other people drilling into their tailgate to attach the 2i spoiler etc..

Im sure there is some anti rust stuff u can buy, but i dont think its gona be that much of a prob.

you might be able to get away with just that on the arches but i wouldnt risk it, specially when travelling at high speeds i.e motorways in wet conditions. You could kiss them goodbye!

The skirts i def wouldnt just use an adhesive to put them on. If you are worried about drilling into your car, just drill them in from the underneath so if you do take the skirts off at a later date you wont be able to see the holes unless you look under the car.

use stainless screws, dont just drillin the sil then bang screws through in a year it will rott water wil get in the sils and rott them, treat the holes, and irion oxide them if poss i would coat the sil in stone chip! and then fix the skirts on. :) :)

Using this guide did you only rivet the sills then?

Printing the guide off now.

Fitting the arches I bought off Rawli 2moz.

So, stainless steel screws, clear silicone and self tappers.

But how do you know where to mark the holes for the screws taht are on the arch?

Just stick paint on the end and stick it on?

it probably took him about 3 seconds to draw on M$ Paint, so i'd take that as a good chance it isn't to scale :lol:
