Postby georgiocat on Fri Jul 24, 2009 11:17 am

Just a question...I uploaded recently a schematic about EDIS-4.I can't find it now.Did anyone from the mods or admins removed it?I had no info on this...

Thanx

Can someone from the admins move it to the Guide section because it gets lost from the other threads?I think it is good to make it sticky :)

1,3 goes to ECU,5,6 goes to crankshaft sensor, and 7 is the earth that connects to the screening cable of the cablew that goes to crankshaft sensor and the ECU.If you search your wirring you will see that these 2 cables are shielded.

Yes you can,I've done it.It is a complete standalone system. This is the reason that you will listen very rarely that they broke down. They are very rugged design. You follow the diagram but you just don't connect anything at 1 and 3.These are the lines that go to ecu.If your engine block has a crankshaft sensor then ofcourse you can :) Of course you must have a carburetor,or else what willl you do with fuelling? :)

Surely my ecu will deal with the fueling still? I think my problem is my ecu doesnt hav internal dis and i need 1 that does so i could use this till i get 1?

Well,if you keep in mind that ecu does the fuelling reading info from various sensors, and just starts to squirt fuel if it reads pulseline from EDIS (pin1 of edis says ECU that you crank engine so to start injecting),I don't see why you can't.Pin 3 of EDIS is used to alter timing on ignition, but on FEZT it is not connected to ECU,only pin 1 connects ECU and EDIS.What engine-ECU have you got?

Yes,pin 8 goes to ignition +12V, and 9 goes to earth.Considering your coils work fine, when you plug the crank sensor and turn the engine, you will have spark.

Does crank sensor effect fueling? Via ecu?

Yes m8,at external edis ecu understands when to fire the injectors by receiving pulses from pip, this is pin 1 from edis that go to ecu.It will give pulse,if the edis reads pulse from the crank sensor,so indirectly yes,ecu is affected by crank sensor.

A very useful guide to a schematic about EDIS-4 and especially with the diagram, I am sure this will help a lot of people to understand all about the Ignition System and with the doubts and questions raised here, it’s clear that it is helping them to really understand it better!!

I am glad that it is helpfull.Truth is that EDIS is well-known and it's schematic is to all electrical Ford manuals, but this is more crear to read, and is isolated from the rest circuitry...
