fiestaturbo.com is exactly 10 years old!

Postby AdrianFRST on Wed Apr 27, 2011 9:26 pm

Went live on April 27th 2001. If you're wondering what it looked like back then, the answer is pretty much the same. The forums have changed three or four times but the main site hasn't been redone. It's looking a little dated but I reckon it's aged remarkably well.

In the 10 years since April 2001 I have:

- Changed jobs seven times (and been at my current one seven years, so six jobs in three years!)
- Bought only three cars
- Sold four cars
- Bought eight bicycles
- Sold no bicycles
- Moved house twice
- Rented a flat then bought a house
- Attended no weddings
- Attended one funeral

After all the stuff that's changed in the past 10 years this site has been a constant. I've visited pretty much every day since it started and seen a lot of people come and go!

I wanted to reel off some impressive statistics but numerous server swaps etc means I have no idea the total number of hits/page views or suchlike. The forum stats are on the main page so I guess the only huge number I can mentuion is running costs to date: circa £20,000!

Who else is still here from day one?

I think that was down to a database problem once which then reset the joined date?

User registration dates are stored in the database as something called a unix time stamp. It counds the number of seconds since Thu Jan 01, 1970. So those users have a 000000 timestamp on their account for whatever reason

Interstingly (or not ) Unix Time Stamp is usable all the way up to January 19, 2038 03:14:08 UTC when the binary version of the number will be 1111111111 (Its 32 bit so cannot get any longer)

I think it was down to server change or the change from .co.uk to .com, sure someone will remember why its like that :)

Something like that. .co.uk was live from September '99.

I think the date issue happened during phpBB updates when transitioning from one version to another. Probably was the case that the old versions didn't record the joining date so when the database schema was updated the default value would have been zero. All supposition as was so long ago I can't recall.
Nothing to see here...

It was my engine, but I was storing it at Paul's. About time it got used!

Yep, this is the reason we are all here:

Not a problem here. It's an integer field in the db, so good for a few million years yet.

It was the transition between the old UBB system to phpBB back in 2001. UBB didn't store registration dates so they are set as zero in the database, which then gets interpreted as Jan 1970 by PHP. I've changed my reg date manually as I know exactly when I set the board up.

There are 549 members who were on the old UBB board. I guess I could change the reg dates for them all to April 2001, but I'm not about to attempt that at this time of night!

I've just found the old member files, so I've updated snake's to the correct date.

Been here a fair few years now, used to come on everyday but not so much now.

Found the site in 2000 but didn't know about bb's back then so didn't join right away, decided to lurk in the back ground instead

I remember it used to get some serious traffic about 7 years ago when I was at college, forum was so busy it was almost like real-time chat.

Happy Birthday ft.com

I also joined while at college end of 2002 I think, and my god, it used to take up my 'boring' time while I was sitting in programming and database sessions

Like Jamie said, there used to be soooo much going on, there was always something new to read on every refresh, and so many interesting projects too :D

Random was fantastic, or Off Topic rather, as it all used to be one if I remember(?), so much funny stuff :)

Well I for one will always have a huge debt to pay to Fiestaturbo.com. If I'd never joined up here, I wouldn't be doing the great job I'm lucky enough to do today. Without Fiestaturbo.com, I'd never have gotten into the wider Ford enthusiasts' scene. I'd therefore never have joined FordSport - and, therefore, never have ended up editing the FordSport club magazine. I'd probably therefore never have met Dave Moore, done work experience on Performance Ford and then ended up taking the spot working on PF which was made vacant by his departure in 2009. In other words, Fiestaturbo.com was essential to the start of my career - without it, I'd probably be working for a software company writing user manuals and daydreaming about the day, one day, when I might just end up writing about cars. Thank you, Ade, and thank you Fiestaturbo.com :D
My name is Alex. I used to have a Capri. I don't anymore. But I'm still called Capri.

I didn't know the forum was born on the same date as all great people of the world! ;)

Happy 10 years FT.com, the online soap opera has brought thrills and spills, and some superb friendships, shows and cars. Go team FT! Probably the most constant thing in my life during the 8.5 years I've been on here! Thanks to FT.com, I built what will probably be the most special car I'll ever own. RIP L474 LEC, you were fantastic :)

Well done Ade x

Happy 10th Birthday fiestaturbo.com !!

Looking at my joining date, it appears I've been on the forums for all but 9 days since it's inception as a .com and well what can I say... we've had some fun hey. Lots of laughs both on here and MSN, at meets, shows and random late night visits to other ft.com members places of abode :D  :D

I've met lots of people and seen many come & go, and must admit this has been the friendliest forum I've been involved with (and there have been a few I can tell you  ). Glad to see everyone doing well and Ade, sir you are a gentleman & scholar. This site has changed and affected many lives, bringing together like-minded individuals that I am proud to call friends.

The Fiesta is still in my ownership and maybe one day will make a special appearance at a few shows. :D

Seeing all these oldskool peeps makes me want to begin a posting frenzy

Last but not least I bid thee all (in infamous words)...

RSpec' :Q

P.S. We need a reunion b!tches!
