Postby jayrs on Sat Jan 07, 2006 12:26 pm

was planing a zetec turbo but due to time, money, kids etc i have now dropped that idea and am sticking with the cvh lump.

im not doing a full car rebuild as such as others have done, i would if i had the time and money but i havent.

so due to a big end shell throwing its toys out the pram the engine started to knock a bit, i replaced the shells just to get me over xmas as i planned the rebuild for about now to start, but when i started it up the turbo was gone, how and why fook knows but even a rebuild kit didnt sort it so might be something like to my oil pressure as it stops when cars warm, anyhow back to it, becausse of it all the car is now off road to be sorted.

i have some issues with panles, so they will be replaced, the filler panle is only just starting to bubble, not much but you can bet its 10 time worse on the inside! so thats coming out and new one in.
seats are being retrimmed in leather ( thanks to my mum, good old mum  ) and me and my dad will do the engine and the body work, and my father in law has offered to spray it for me as hes a sprayer by trade :D

will inlist the help of some mates as i want the car ready for the summer, not counting my chickens but if i dont set some sort of limit it wont get done  .

will post pics of the work as it gets done etc.

starting the first stage today, strip the inside out, this is so my mum can start when she can and stops the seats going manky where its left

plan is to strip it all out, body kit, seats engine etc and start on the under side getting that re-undersealed and tank/axal panited etc.

here are some pics of the car as it stands ( some are olded pic's)

cheers guys.

yes mate, standard rebuild on the cvh, will be done right, new cam, pistons etc etc, , ported polished, balanced all that mate.

interiors out as is the boot instal, that weighted a fooking ton so thats about 30bhp back  , na gunna redo that anyway and will do it in 6mm not the 10mm is it at the mo.

ordered up the cream leather yesterday for the head lining and seat piping, once ive got my redundancey money through, the black leather for the seats will be ordered along will all the other bits and bobs then its a case of doing the parts of the car as and when.

was gunna drop the engine today but its pi$sing with rain so not gunna bother, will do it next week if weathers ok, can see the old gazebo coming out again,

it is mate, when i had it sprayed the guy offered to fit it as he sprayed my bonnet at the same time ( got the hole and line filled in) so it was his problem, lol, but he never said it was a fooker to fit so guess it went on ok.

in saying that i did help a mate fit his a while back and thay was a bit of a fooker as it needed triming etc.
remember that all these things are knocked out quick and cheapley, and trimmed rough, final trimming and fitting is down to you mate but its easy to do and TBH the only parts your need to trim would be the coner bits as it folds round the front panle to wing, maybe along that lenth and maybe the corner bit as it goes into wheel arch, but it wont be much i reckon.
fitting the lights is the c**t of the job as theres not really enough space for them to fit, unless you mod the light, dent in/cut front panel

plan for this weekend is to drop the engine, get the car up in the air, drop the rear axle and fuel tank, and all the bits in the way, prep it ready for new under seal

will paint the tank and rear axle also.

thats a point, anyone know how to get the fuel lins off the connector on the tank?
haynes say you need a special tool or something.

Warm them up and pull them off! I replaced mine with new rubber fuel lines anyway. The top of the tank needs a "special tool", also known as a drift and a delicate touch with a hammer :)

lol, and getting them back on? lol

was thinking of changing them over to braided lines, not all the way through, just to the main metal lines, but really i only need to get them off once so i can shift the tank, after that they would (hopefully) never need to come off again.

think before i fook mine up ill go down scrappy and practice

right been out to it today, after all the pis$ing about prob only got a few hours of work in, started at 12, had to put up a cover, started on it only to find i had forgot to ask my dad to grab the engine hoist from my uncles place :( so my dad and 1 of my mates went off to grab it, so me and my other mate were left there for hour and half taking little bits that didnt really have to come off, off like starter, coils pack etc just something to pass the time, but still all i got to do tomorrow is all the bits underneath, exhaust, crossmember, drive shafts etc and the engine will be out.
depending on time and weather will get the back end in the air and drop the rear axle and fuel tank.

sorry about the cr@p pics, dunno whats up with my camera but my mates bringing his tomorrow so should have some better ones.

see if ya can spot me working real hard

doesnt show but all the seats are out. dash will be next but more important thing first

pic's so far

cheers wes, still waiting for the masking tap :bonkers:

i havent done anything to it for last couple of weeks, dunno if im gunna have time this weekend as that black FRST is coming over to be stripped.

got a price for some bits on the engine from a place on the mainland where round where i used to live, cheaper than overhere wes.

crank regind and they supply bigs and mains, £130 (cant remember if its plus vat or not) but ill pay cash

rebore and they supply pistons, £420, again dunno if its plus vat.

might get the block bored on iow mate, and buy the pistons, that might work out cheaper, but overhere they want £160 just to grind crank :o robbing fookers.

anyhow better get on with something

well nothing been done this weekend due to time and the fact its cold as f**k, but i did nip down fords today and got a load of bits up, half or which had to be ordered,

cant remember all the bits off the top of my head but i walked out near on £200 lighter

some other parts were cheaper else where so got them there, E.G new water pump, £22.12 inc vat, dont really think need a new one but for that i might as well fit it.

wont get nothing done sunday as i got a new shed arriving, so need to get that up so i can get the engine in there and strip and once all bored etdc rebuilt, also got 4 alloys to refurb so shed is a must this weekend

well picked up my new lower front panel and filer repair panel, its not bad but even though its small on the out side ( couple of bubbles) you know its about 3 inch on the inside, so thats coming off.

just found out ford have discontinued the door hinge pins, nice one ford :x

also got the FRST that im breaking, so some spares from that are going over to my car, well the turbo is, some other bits will go in stock
(if anyones after some bits check here http://www.fiestaturbo.com/forums/viewt ... p?t=123155)

still waiting for the other bits from fords to arrive.

engine is being stripped sunday, blocks going in for rebore in the week with some luck, got to call them and make sure they can do it this week that is, head will also have a skim at same time

the crank is going to the mainland to be regorund and shells supplied, i know this sounds weird but it works out over £100 cheaper to have
that place on mainland do it than the place on isle of wight, crazy i know.
best thing is my dads cousin is coming over and he can take it and drop it in to them :) not sure how ill get it back but ill cross that brigde when i come to it
