right its been a while, but i have been busy.

the engine crank is now (as i type) on its way to be regound, new shells are coming when it comes back too, £167 :o thats a bit more than i was first told but $hit happens.

pistons, mahle 0.5mm over size are being ordered tomorrow (10th april), cheapest i could find was £275, in one of my other posts i might of said about pistons being £200, but i cant remember, but these were king pistons, ive never heard of them and was told but someone that they dont make turbo pistons :-? anyhow, pay the rest get the best, or one of them so mahle it is.

block will boe bored once pistons are here, i had it messuered by the place thats gunna bore it and they told me to get the 0.5mm over size so alls good there.

so far on the rest of the car, ive stripped and painted the rear beam, i stripped and painted the rear anitroll bar this aftrenoon.
the fuel tank, fuel lines and brack line have been removed, as have the body kit, basicly the underside is bear ready fo cleaning up and repainting/undersealing

reast really is few other bits like, bottom arm brackets, steering rack etc etc have also been removed.

unfortunatly i got laid off from work at the end of march so i got time on my hand, hopfully i can get lots done untill i find another job, funds allowing of course.

few pics, nothing major just what i have of the rear beam after i srtipped it (with wire brush that fits grinder) and after its been painted,

Oh we have an update! Sorry to hear about you losing your job :( Remind me what you did again? Did you not fancy stiffening up the rear beam while it was off? Enjoy some lie-ins and fuller days of work on the car! Long days can grind, but slow-moving projects grind more!

i was made redundant from a job in dec 05, where i used to build wind turbin blade, then i worked for a place making bullet proof boards for banks and whatever else, due to "lack of work" i got laid of with the message there call me when work picks up, but we're see.

as for rear beam, i dont see the point in stfferning it up, i know people say its better handling etc but tbh i have never had a problem with the back end

lay ins are always good, but i will get up early in the week as i dont want to get used to it

got plenty on though, will be re-studing my wheel archs one day this week, but thats a indoor job so can be saved for when its raining
still i will use the time i have on my hand to progress this as far as i can funds dependant, want it done by summer time really

Yeah the back end on mine hasn't presented any problems for me, would definitely weld something on it while it was off to see if it improved anything anywhere. Sod it, it's not my car! Sorry to hear about your crap run of jobs, I'll ask around, see if any friends need wind turbine blades making :)

i did think about it mate, as i remember a discussion about it ages ago, but after talking to my dad it was decided that if we did weld something on and it made it worse we would have to fook about cut it off, and as they say, if it aint bust dont fix it, so we followed that

cheers mate, any haelp and advise can be got off this site as ya prob already know, im self taught, and know more than most of the c0ck heads working in garages over here  plus my dad is self taught and has been doing it for focking donkeys so his helpping me as well.

advice i can give ya, get a manual, take ya time, dont start anything you dont think you can finish/do safely unless ya can get help from some that can.

as for tools, if ya havent got loads of cash to splash, check out boot sales and charity shops and some new cheap stuff is ok to start with.

was looking through some pic's on my pc and cam across the ones from when i done my bumper up.

i got the bumper in 1999 and its been through some changes sice i got it, i cut the top grill part off (they didnt make them like that then) it it had a few repairs since that, someone reversed into it in a car park and scracked the top :x then someone hit it and put a hole in the drivers side part about a inch from the light pocket, both times i fixed it my self, that was back in 02, so 4 years later it hadnt done bad, crack in the spliter part and loads of spider cracks from that crack and around the light pockets due to gel coat cracking, i grond out the gell goat along the crack and drilled a hole at each end of the crack to stop it going further, from there i went on to prep it ready for filling and filled, primed and sprayed.

well my dad sprayed the red.

these are just a few of the pictures, i know its got nothing to do with the rebuild now, but i see it as a early start to it :bonkers:

the white is the gell coat the green/grey/pinky bit is the fiber glass under it  its the only way to get shot of a spider crack really, as you can see, i didnt hold back!

damn this hasnt been updated for a while has it

well due to weather, lack of money/time and some other probs not much has been done really.

the engine has been bored, pistons are now on the rods and there coming back to me when a cheque clears but a phone call today said it was ready, not bad going as the guy shut up shop and now does it from home and he only picked it up wednesday night so pleased thats done.

the crank has been ground, but as above due to lask of money and other probs i havent been able to get over to my dads cousin's to collect it along with a passanger wing there too.

any how finers crossed within 2 weeks all will come togethere and it will be making its way back into the bay. but i aint putting money on it!

under side is being painted tuesday and by this time next week all will be back toget here under there, tank painted and back on and rear beam and lines etc etc

so really apart from cleaning up underside and tanks etc and painting some bits and bobs not much has really got done and im a bit pi$$ed off as i didnt realise so much time had gone by :(

any how im pulling me finger out as i sold the escort i was smoking around in and now (apart from wifes galaxy) im car less, well will be completely when my mate gets back from spain this week and i got to give his car back.

no pic's of anything but will do a better update later this week or beginning of next.

right up-date time, got my block, piston and crank back, will start to rebuild the engine nearer the week end as im away for a couple of days this week, how ever there are still things to do like put the new battery tray in, repaint under the car fit the tanks back etc etc but if all goes well it should be back on 4 wheels and running again within a couple of weeks i hope.

then its just body work to do then like fit the new wing, couple of doors ( loads of door marks and a bad hinge on the drivers door)

well pleased with the crank, new mains, new big end and thrust bearings plus the regrind, £135 :)

block rebore and fit all 4 pistons to the rods £140.

painted the block tonight as i got it back at 6pm this evening  so paints still wet in the pic's.

painted up some other bits as your see in the pics below.
the wing was a ebay bargin, £10.50 and its a gen ford part, i won that ages ago but had to get a uncle to pick it up and i collected it from him along with my crank (as it was cheaper regrind over near him) on sat just gone.

for anyone intersted hears some pic's of the bits and some new bits i got from fords. (4 rubber pads for the fuels tank, 4 bolts for fuel tank and a oil cooler hose, was given the wrong one but may as well keep it for £3   but ive orded the right one now)
i also painted the EFI part on the top of the inlet, didnt paint or polish the inlet just cleaned it up with a wire brush, same as the thermostat housing.
talking of which, the thermostat was fine as i checked it but i fitted a new rubber seal and spring clip.
still waiting for 2 new rubber donuts for the front shocks, a oil cooler pipe and spring nuts for the petrol tank to come in at fords.
also got a pair of front ARB drop links on there way off of ebay, new of corse

BTW i havent cleaned the bores, it still has honeing paste in it.

before repaint

take it know ones intersted anymore but fock it ill still post up.

few little bits today to finish off, also got 3 therostat housing bolts on order and2 covers for the ball joints.

focking guy in ford tried to rip me again by saying they had to order a min of 10 i wouls would have to pay for all 10, i told him in the nicest way to kiss my ass and he got the message and oreded 3, 1 word, JOBSWORTH!

anyhow all thje bits are together now so the rebuild can now begin

pic of what i got today, but the seal for the down pipe went back as it was to small and they didnt have another, but i aint paying fords £12 plus vat for it when i dont really need it

Loving the progress with this rebuild. No corners cut is what i like to see. Will be mint when completed.

I still say go back to standard Rs front bumper but thats just my preference. :bonkers:

thats right mate, if ya gunna do something, do it right.
and no, im not going back to standard bumper,

i would of liked a whole new rear quarter panel not the repair panel but my dad said the repair panel would be easy to do and ive seen his work in the past and trust what he says so decided to go with it.

got a couple of other bits from fords the other day, nothing major, 3 thermostat bolts, and 2 shaped cover plates (pic's to follow) which have never been on my car since the day i got it, and TBH im not sure they were every on the fez, its a little metal plate that clips to the bottom of the hub housing and will sit between that and the rubber of the ball joint, seems to be a good idea so decided to go with it and got a couple, works out to just over £6 with thepair so they best fit

also won a pair of complete bottom arms/wishbones for £18.98 off ebay, brand new and that inc post!!
bargin, because when i removed my passange side arm ( which is 5 years old) the rear bush fell out so that was naffe, and for 2 rear and 2 front (best to of done both arms) all 4 bushes from fors would of cost me £18.25 with the vat, so for a extra 73p i got brand new bottom arms, there not a gen ford part and the ball joint on them although is not a FRST one it is the type i use on my fez to combat the camber problem due to being lowered  so a good deal even if the ball joint part last a year, as i have a couple of new ones in the shed :)
