funny you should say about the gearbox actualy! we was having a chat about the gearbox last night and wondering if the 6 speed was actually the best way to go, 1 because of the ratios. 2 because of the limited clutch choice and cost and 3 its actual lack of mounting points! i do lilke the feel of the getrag box and the thought of 6 speed aswell but need to add up all the pros and cons. i wonder why luca has stuck with the 6 speed tho

That's why I sold the getrag 'box when building my last ST170 ZT project: The Fiesta is light enough to pull relatively tall ratios in a 5 speed 'box. The Getrag has 1.08:1 in 6th on 2.88:1 Final drive. That's only 172mph with 15's and an 8200 rev limit!

MTX75 is a good choice.

i can pull that in 5th at much lower rpm om my mtx :)

luca has just had a custom gear kit made for the getrag box because of the ratio's but it cost over 4k just fot the parts :o

theres a few different final drives for the mtx so you can mix and match for not a lot of cash,ive just put a 3.41 fd into mine .(was a 3.82) theres also a 3.56 and a 4.06 :)

i can help you out with the top gearbox mount for the mtx or the getrag box :)

ahhh ok so thats why his still using the getrag lol hmm looks like a gearbox change then! atleast iv still got the getrag box to sell. what flywheel and clutch do you run with the mtx ? also do the shafts still have to be custom ? i no mine will be because of power anyway. from what you two have just told me it is a much better choice maybe thats why they put it in the rs :-? lol

shafts are still custom,i use a standard 2.0l flywheel and the uprated organic clutch for the focus rs ,wont be much good for your power tho lol.

...and use Mondeo MTX inner CV joints as apposed to Focus. The Mondeo versions are much stronger (the Focus RS used them also).

As you're using the Mk5 Fiesta hubs then use Zetec-S or 1.8 TDDi outer CV's, these will accept the same spline pattern as the MTX shafts and are the beefiest outers that match the Mk5 hubs.

cool, i have brand new zetec s outer cvs, also if im going to go the mtx route witch i probably will now i will most likely just buy a focus rs box. if i can find one forsale. iv been having a look around and alot are listed as mtx75 but look different ?

bit of advice is this overpriced ? and does anybody no were i can get one from if it is ?? or am i better off just buying a mondeo one ?

The ratios in the Focus RS box are even worse - top speed on 15's is something like 141 at 7k! Even with 'only' 200bhp in a Fiesta you're at 140 on even small stretches of road.

so with a 2.0 focus gearbox 03 plate in 5th gear on 195/40/16 tyres would do 200mph ? "not that the tires would " lol but is that correct ? so i want a 2003 - 2004 focus 2.0 zetec gearbox ?

is there a certain part number box i should be looking for as i can find mk1 98 - 2005 boxes but obviously still dont no if there correct for instance this one ?

how do i no witch one has that final drive tho ? i take it the one in link you sent me does but how do you no ? "just wanna make sure i buy the right one" also these dont have lsd do they ? cheers.

The one in the Ad is the later 'box (it says 2002-2005 in the advert) which is the Mk2/Mk1 facelift Focus.

The 1998-2002 'box has the taller Final Drive.

You'll need to add your own LSD :)

should be a pure machine once done thou, dont ask me about gearboxes lol, ive not used much more than a Si box, which btw i think is great :P thats all i know :rolleyes: :lol:

Don't forget you'll need a hydraulic clutch conversion. I'm just about to do this on my Si, it's dead easy - the Mk5 Fiesta Hydraulic clutch assembly essentially bolts on the end of the Mk3 pedal box (couple of holes required). You'll see what needs doing on the bulkhead when you get the pedal box built.

They won't mate. Get a Focus RS shifter/lever as it is a short-shift unit, you'll also need the MTX cables.

Have you bought an ST170 setup already? PM me a price for the package if you don't mind :D

dont come on here much these days but keep sayign the same thing :lol: , this will be awful as a road car with that much power!? the Gt35 is way too OTT for what you want TRUST me i will be using a GT35 on my car running a .63 housing... thats a 500-600hp cossie. the 35 is too big for a small hot hatch it will come in too late and strong especially on a .82..... Not slatign you here just seriously consider what your building and doing. a 600hp cossie is more than plenty on the road mine in 400hp spec was great.... Have you ever driven a 400hp car? have you ever driven a big HP small hot hatch, i think you should before going the whole hog. not saying dont do it say maybe not to go as far as you are going... :)

i agree with you 100% it is ott probably one of the main reasons im doing it :) im not buliding this for the same reasons as luca to try and get the fastest times etc im doing it because i can and want to. and in a way for the novalty of it aswell. thats why im not building it to track spec like others. if i was going for a track car i wouldnt be going anywere near that power as it just wouldnt be worth it. iv driven alot of high power cars. and some that are classed as powerfull cars and i think they feel gutless some feel quick but never really fast!! untill you start getting to the big power. my rst was 200bhp and i was soo dissapionted. but anyway thats not what i was saying. i no it isnt going to beable to put the power down like your cossie would for instance but i dont really care, not about what your saying but i dont care that it wont beable to put it down etc etc its more just something because i want to do it :) thanks for your comments tho

NO. mine was over 250hp and as said span the wheels in 4 gears in the dry with some of the best bits you can buy without spending MEGA money on stuff, i mean my suspension alone was 1k... then i realised why would i want 500hp in a fiesta its ludicrous ? i had the cash to get ian howell to build mine there and then, BUT i bought the cossie instead which can handle the power and bought my shop and a my audi a3 to pop about in. would i change things looking back, No but i would have left the fiesta at 195spec as said and maybe had it as a run about.

fair enough. but i have a mk4 golf aswell to run around in. i had the fiesta as a daily driver before i done this and like i said it was about 200 and i thought it was pretty dissapionting and didnt like the cvh engine "just my opinion" also if i realy want to i can spin the gti up threw to 3rd gear. im not disagreeing with you i no that the fiesta can just ignite the tyres! but so what. and tbf it sounds like you have more money than me, for a start i couldnt go and buy a cossie just like that or i most probably would have.. and i also cant afford to buy a shop aswell. so its just another reason of why im doing it because its more affordable for me as a big power car. i appreciate your comments as every comments helps with decions on what to do. but in this case im still going to do it because like i said i want to :)
