Coilovers - specifying

Postby andymac on Mon Oct 17, 2011 8:29 pm

Hi Chaps (and chapesses)

I'm trying to figure out what I need to specify to suppliers of coilovers in order to determine the correct strut size and spring rate in order to achieve a certain ride height and idea of what the damping and progressiveness of the ride will be like.

However, nearly everyone I've spoken to is trying to recommend unsuitable damper units or springs and it's starting to get a bit wearing - as you might imagine (box shifters trying to sell me preset kits, which isn't what I want). Spoken to Avo sales directly and they've not been particularly helpful (I'm not after an off-the-shelf solution).

Anyone got any ideas of who to talk to or anyone been through this process before ? I know the weight and distribution of weight of my vehicle and have a set of existing dampers with which to ascertain the appropriate maximum strut height, but don't know precisely what's involved with determining the correct rate of spring etc.

Cheers guys/

1st to reply on my own thread, terrible I know.

Been speaking to a chap at gazcoilovers.com - incredibly helpful and reasonable pricing. Also put to rest concerns I had about valveing and spring rates for road and occasional track use. If you find yourselves in the market, give them a shout, I think you'd be happy and surprised especially when compared with the likes of AVO retail sales who I found incredibly frustrating.
