Boring out a 1.4 Zetec SE engine??

CVH and Zetec tuning, suspension and braking mods.

Postby Puma_1.7 on Wed Oct 17, 2001 6:00 am

I have a Zetec SE 1.4 engine (as used in Fiesta SE) and I need to increase its capacity.

Increasing the stroke shouldn't be much of a problem, but increasing the bore -now that's another matter altogether!

I need to increase the bore by 5mm. Is this possible? Does the 1.4 block have the tolerances for such an increase? I have read on occasion that the 1.7 Zetec engine is derived from the 1.4, so I should hope that this work is possible.

Any ideas ppl?? Also could someone give me a ballpark figure of the work??

Cheers
Nick

Not possible!!. The engines are of the Zetec se type, but its like saying the 2 litre zetec is derived from the 1.6 zetec.. Also the 1700 has got VCT..

Sorry to dig up this old post but does anyone actually know the maximum boring tollances of the 1400 engine.

Also can anyone confirm the 1400 is just a heavily bored 1.25. I believe the 1600 SE is a different block all together and also uses a long throw crank but same rods as the 1.25 and 1.4.

Using the 1400 crank and rods in a 1600 block should in theory work - the shorted stroke means youll end up with an over square 1500cc rev happy engine.

The same applies to the 1400, but is there enough metal to bore it from 76 to 79mm (in which case 1600 pistons will fit) giving you again, a super race rev happy 1500cc engine.

The later is what I'm looking into - so again can the 1400 be bored out from 76 to 79mm
Too old and too bald.
