Hi all,

The rear beam is fitted, went well with no probs - the anti-roll bar will be fitted at a later date.

Fitted new rear struts and painted my trailing arms as well.

All thats left is to bleed the brakes and fit the wheels,

PICS:

Car jacked nice and high ready to drop he knackered 1100 beam.

Painted trailing arms and drums.

That is all.

Cheers, - next on the list is to convert ignition to electroic format and do away with the mechanicl side of things, as this will make it very easy to drop the xr2 engine in. I have a post 86 fiesta (electronic ignition) as well so i will be robbing part of the loom and the multi plug off that for the dizzy on the xr2.

Ideally at the same time or before, i will be fitting my XR2 calipers and vented discs on the front (Base models have solid front discs). Then i want to fit my XR2 seats and the dash, connect up the rev counter to the coil and im happy then. :)

Will keep you all updated.

Gareth.

ps - im having terrible withdrawel syptoms from the FRST, for some reason i have a real craving for the power of the FRST but i cant do anything about it because its not back on the road till spring :( :(

Well not much of an update really, just fitted XR2 front bumper and fitted another XR2 rear bumper as the one i had - the red stripe had faded some what.

Then just gave the old gilr a wash, quich polish, and deatiled the tyres with some top class tyre black, cleaned the interior and bought some new matts as the old ones were grandad specials - home made from carpet off cuts,

Still waiting on my spotlights to turn up, cant wait to fit them, should look better and the added bouns of eceb better full beam lights, though the standard full is spot on.

Hmmm difference of opinioun (spelling) here

Im really not sure what to do - like i said at first i was against fitting it but now i dont know - i do think it will look spot on if i do fit etc, and the rear wheels wont look odd like they do when most base models have the xr2 kit put on because i now have the xr2 rear beam on as well.

Im in two minds, just seems a waste to have the kit just sat in the shed doing nothing.

The debate will continue...........

Will make the wheels look too small
Everyone does it
Could make rust start to appear and hide it if it does

Standard xr2 pepper pots on, so they wont look to small

Most people do it because the mk2 xr2 looks spot on from the factory

Rust will only appear if its not looked after ie, arches arnt packed with grease and if mud is allowed to build up under the kit. But the arches are all ready packed with grease & i would'nt allow mud to build up.

Yes but the wheels will look smaller due to the bulky kit, as opposed to how it looks now.

leaving the kit off isnt different, even if you leave the bumper off that aint different, its all been done before.

however, that pic you put up of the one with the flared arches does look good, its the sort of thing you look twice and know something is different but it doesnt hit you right away

IMO without the arches looks better with the pepper pots. I see where max is comming from, the kit does distract from the wheels a bit making them look smaller.

Hi chaps - no photos but picked up some very good condition frst recaros for the b reg yesterday.

Will put piccys up soon. They arnt a straight foward fit though firstly as the runners are wider than the mk2 seats, so one of the mounts on the seat (that bolts to the floor of the car) needs to have another hole drilled so it will bolt down, and secondly the front is very differnt - on the mk3 they bolt through to a raised part of the floor, but on the mk2 that raised section is the chassis rail and is further back so i need to make up some small angled bracket to utalise the standard bolting points for the seats, or grind off the ford angled brackets on the mk2 seats and bolt that to the recaors and they will go straight in.

fit the mk2 seat runners, that what i did when i had a recaro fitted in the xr2 i had years back, and its whats fitted on a recaro i took out of the blue xr2 i stripped.

cant see base spec runners being different to xr2 ones tbh

Hi all managed to get mt recaros in this week end.

They are not a stright foward fit like the ERST seats, i had to make up a flat section of steel to run along the front of the seat, then bolt the mk2 runners to the seat, quite east to do just fiddly with the measuring etc but they look top and they are so comfortable compared to the old s**t.
