Re: Project B reg fiesta : 2.0 Zetec..*More new parts*
HI all,
Not updated this for quite some time. Well the engine is getting there, just been trying to source various parts for the conversion. Got fed up with waiting for a sump etc and im not paing £40 - 50 for the ones on ebay for a sump
So when this shed popped up near by i could'nt refuse it especially at £122.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=001
All the parts i need off of this will be robbed, sump, loom etc etc etc.
Some of the bits will be sold then the heep will be going to the scrap man, should easily get my money back on that.
The 2.0 engine is now fitted with a new water pump (1.8 zetec from an escort), new cam belt kit, R5 GTT oil filter etc. I will soon have the sump and various parts on, so im not too far away now.
More updates soon.

Re: Project B reg fiesta : 2.0 Zetec..*More new parts*
UPdate, not many photos but i will get some.
First things first my 2.0 Zetec is nearly ready to go in the car now, i have fitted all the various parts such as sump etc. My new ford sump gasket arrived today along with my Fiesta RS turbo cutch. So i can fit these on the weekend. I have pained the engine and sump all up and sprayed the cam cover and inlet etc, fully degreased the engine and she looks spanking!
Removed the loom and various parts from the scrap si so all that is ready and waiting now. All i have left to do is fit my altenator and belt, and fit my xr2 tie bar and the engine will go in the bay. I have the week after next off work so i shall be doing the transplant then. Also order my european injection mk2 fiesta tank as well and that should arrive next week.
Now on the M.O.T side of things.
As you can see in the pics below a little work was required. The only other thing which i had to do was fit the rachets in the rear drums so now my hand brake is A1.
Here you can see a rather large hole in the drivers side rear corner of the boot.
and here you can see that the inner cill has just started to go - so not wanting to do things by half i have bitten the bullet and we are putting a new inner and outer cill on, as there is one very small hole in the outer cill, but rather than putting unsightly patches on we are putting a new cill on.
Here you can see the hole welded up in the boot. Just got to paint this the same colour as the car now and then spray a load of wax oyl on the underside. Also having a tidy up on the outside soon - fitting new drivers side rear arch and new bonnet then the exterior is job done as the rest of the shell is good.
THe mot runs out next week so i have some time to fit the cill - then in for the mot and she should pass.
More updates soon,
Gareth.

Re: Project B reg fiesta :**engine and mot work**
I dont know Jay i just figured get rid of it totally and fit new fresh metal on.
Ok been quite busy with the fez over the weekend, spend most of the day on saturday giving the car a pre-mot polishing/buffing session. Used my new machine polisher on it and the car is gleaming now. Also "Blacked" all my plastics and finally treated the tyres to some proper tyre Black.
Heres the pics:
Note the dents in the bonnett
Then today i mangaed to fit my sump gasket, Clutch, 1600 zetec CPS & holder and then modified the engine mount so it clears the inlet mani etc and bolts up with out fouling anything.
Heres some pics.
More updates soon,
Gareth.

polishing work looks tip top
bumpers came up nice with treatment gel. defonatly leave the kit off and leave pepper pots on. Maybe polish them up
That xr2 will fly with a nice 2 litre in it.

Re: Project B reg fiesta :*Pre M.O.T Polishing & engine work *
Cheers guys, Yeah it didnt polish upto bad but it does need some work outside. The bonnett is dented, the rear drivers side arch has corroded so needs replacing and the hatch has has a DIY spray job so the paint is s**t on that as well.
My injection tank has arrived, but im not overly impressed with the swirl pot/accumalator inside - i will get a pic to try and show it. Just cant wait for next week, im off work and want to get the zetec bolted in, with gear box etc and all the mechanical side of things done. Then all thats left is to fit the fuel tank & pump, and onto the wiring, which TBH im not looking foward to at all as im not sure i can do it on my own. Physically getting the engine in the bay and sorting out the tank will be fine but the elctrical side of things im not so sure on.
Will just have to see how it goes, fitting the ECU and the engine loom will be a doddle because it all plugs onto the associated sensors and i have marked whick sensor / plug goes where. But fitting the fuel pump relay and injection relay along with the wiring could be where i fall down and then plumbing in my ignition live etc as well. Fingers crossed though.

Ok heres the pics of the tank. Is it right that i only have one take off at the bottom?
Here you can see the outlet at the bottom and a small one on the top :
Heres the swirl pot / accumalator inside, i presume the pipe coming from it is the feed for the fuel pump, as its going to this area where there should always be a good reserve of fuel?
Gareth.

yeah looks right, looking at that, its dead easy to make a normal tank into that.
for some reason i thought you were going for internal pump im going for internal, bit of cutting and welding later i should be there
thats a point, i should really start venting that spare tank i have to get rid of fumes before cutting it open

lol thats probably a good idea, you dont want it exploding in your face - might sting a bit.
So you think the tank will be fine?

Re: Project B reg fiesta :*Passed m.o.t & 1.1 engine is out *
Hi chaps well i have some updates.
Yesterday the car had its m.o.t and she flew through
Once i got home - straight in the garage and today i removed the 1100 engine, all was going well this morning the lump was out by 1.00 but then this afternoon was not so good. Was just about to put the zetec in, but realised i had to swop the drivers side tie bar for the xr2 item, but two of the bloody bolts that hold the original tie bar to chassis broke off! So i spent the rest of the getting the snapped bits out!
Any way heres some pics :
Car jacked up and engine out
1100 engine on the ground
and heres the zetec - now with the 5 speed box bolted up and with the mk2 gear box cradle all ready to go in
Engine will be in tomorrow and so will the injection tank. More updates then.
Gareth.

Re: Project B reg fiesta :* 2.0 zetec is in *
Hi all,
another update today. The zetec is and all bolted up. Was really pleased with how well it went in. I then spent the rest of the fiddling with radiators etc.
I have now put the xr2 radiator in and started to connect up the various coolent hoses. One quick question though - where does the pipe go that comes out below the top hose on the thermo stat hosing?
Heres some pics from today.
More tomorrow,
Gareth.

Im not sure which hose you mean, theres three on the thermostat i think. One on the top goes to the header tank. One on the side goes to the rad, and one on the front goes to the water rail.

Ah! In my picture, the steel water rail is the wrong way round! So there are 4, the 3 that you've mentioned and then the last one that goes to the heater matrix

Re: Project B reg fiesta :* 2.0 zetec is in *
Hi all,
Well over the last couple ive days i have sorted out my coolent plumbing and then today installed the injection tank.
I had a tedious day today as nothing seed to be going right first off my original 1100 tank had a side sender unit - and the new injection tank is top feed. So the first prob was that my sender unit would'nt fit in the inj tank as the entire assembly was to long. No probs i thought i have many xr2 tanks all of which are top feed. So i removed a tank from one of my xr2's, got the sender unit and it fitted fine in my new inj tank. However i then came to fit the new tank and as i now had top feed rather than side my fuel lines under the car were facing the wrong way which of course meant i had to swop my 1100 fuel lines for the xr2 ones - fiddly and annoying.
Any way thats out of the way now - with the remainder of the day i sorted out the fuel plumbing in the engine bay and plumbed in my injection fuel filter. Just one thing though is the fuel supply on the fuel rail from the drivers side and return from the passengers? as thats how ive plumbed it in?
Tomorow i shall fit the pump underneath and thats the fueling 100% sorted. Then onto the dash etc and then wiring.
Anyway pics:

Jay - i say many but in total i have two. They were bought as rotted dogs many years ago just for parts - as at the time both my brother and i had xr2's.
Ones been in the yard for nine years and the other five years. Theres not much left of one though as i ve nearly had every useful part off of it.
Gareth.
