Anyone solved the knocking from the B&M shifter ?
Lost the topic ages ago, but some people had problems with the B&M shifter, as in bad knocking or vibrations ?
Did anyone solve this.
As I think i might fit mine in a couple of weeks, only been lying around for 1.5 year now, so might as well fit it

The problem with the B&M shifter is that it is fixed solidly to the floorpan so does not allow for the normal movement of the engine. It either needs to be fitted with cotton reels (small rubber insulation mounts0, or the engine needs to be virtually solidly mounted.

this is a cottonreel mount-
If you have an electric window motor lying around, have a look at that. It will have three onit where it mounts to the door.

Does the Quickshift kit assemble onto the standard linkage then? It's hard to gauge it by how much the throw is reduced by as many of us have already sawn our levers down (I took another inch off yesterday), but how does it affect gear changes? Are the gears very close together laterally, still well-spaced but quick...any feedback?

Hiya James, I actually bought the quickshift off PaulR a couple of years ago before i bought H702. Paul had originally fitted it to H702 but didnt like it cos he said it was easier to miss a gear in the heat of a quick change. I haven't tried it myself but i had a quickshift in my Mini Cooer Sportpack and you had to be more precise with that when you changed gear. TBH I think I would go for a new/refurbed linkage over a quickshift, especially ifthe gearbox had been reconned as well.

Yeah probably true. Mine feels nice and tight now, Have taken 3" or more off it now I think, will take it for a test drive soon. I have my CTS 'box and re-built my linkage yesterday, so hopefully it will be a nice shifting action now. None of this 2-second-change lark!

James, you should have tried my linkage at Ford Fair. It transforms the gearchange. One of the simplest and most beneficial mods anyone can make to their 5 speed Fiesta.

Well you'll have to get your arse in gear, get to Trax and let me see what it's like! Just taken mine out for a drive and it's now better than before I re-built the linkage Think it could be partly down to the clutch (bite point is low), partly down to the crap linkage.
