Including all the mistakes through trial and error and parts purchased which were wrong or i never used etc i would say about £600.

If you can get an engine cheap enough with all the ancilleries etc and use the si loom from the start then it should be a bit cheaper, especially if you can get bargain parts and the right one first time round.

im going to be using an escort 1.8 gti engine, would you say still use the 1.6 fiesta si whole loom? engine a car? im still going to use the gti ecu as it is comming with the engine? as you used the whole si loom, did you have to add or modd it in any way for the engine?

im hoping that the engine will drop in faily easy and with it only been a 1.8 wont need half the bits that you did, any other good hints b4 i do it?

will i need to chnage anything on this engine or will it be ok as a whole as it is apart from the engine loom?

If you use a Fiesta Si engine loom I'm not entirely certain it will work with the GTI ecu, you might need to get a BLOB ecu from an early Mondeo.
Those that can, do; and those that can't, talk about it.

right ok then, ill keep an eye out for one of them dwon the breakers yard, ill get one of them just as a spare if it dont line up, is that the best ecu off the mondeo to use then? so say i had that, would the rest of the fiesta si loom be ok then? wouldnt need to change it atall?

and would my 1.8 engine drop right in apart from that engine mount of course?

DEEP Ecu and an maching MAF along with a Fiesta si Loom (Must be 16v) and you'll be cooking on gas.

I eventually opted for the complete loom to erdicate any bodge work needed and since then it runs sweet as a nut

right ok, well it wont take me long to swap the looms over i dont think as done one b4 as long as they are the same inside really,

so if i put a full one in i wont have any wiring probs, it should all conect up a treat, as for the ecu, i am getting the gti ecu and all the sensors with it, worth using that or just go for the mondeo one?

if the mondeo one what sensors will i need just so i no when at the scrappy, p,s, pics of the sensors would be gd and locations of them

one last thing, would the inlet on the above engine be ok or would i have to use the rs1800 style inlet?

Just re-read your posts from the start. My apolgies I was assuming you were going to use a 2.0 ltr. Seeing as you are using a 1.8 then forget all i have said. you will need a 1.8 ecu and maf plus a 1.8 loom. depending on what ecu you use (ext EDIS or int EDIS) will dictate what loom you use, or vice versa.

before i crack on and give you duff info, i need to know what engine you are using and what from.

You wont be able to use the GTi ECU since they have internal PATS. You need one from an early 1.8 mondeo (someone will know the code) to use with an Si loom.

its an escort 1.8 gti engine zetec e :)

so what car/engine loom should i use best as at the mo its only a basic 1.4cvh loom in there, i dont mind laying in a new car loom, not a big deal really in a mk3 fiesta lol

and the ecu is from the gti aswell, aswell as all the sensers as thats gunna come with the engine too ;)

There you go. As Raymondo said.

I would suggest either using the 1.8 engine you have sourced, and getting hold of a complete loom, ecu etc from a 1.8 16v 2i or,

if you're going from cvh to zetec then you might as well go for a 2.0 ltr then everything i have said so far still stands.

99% of the sensrs are the same and they should come with loom or engine anyway

na the 1.8 is the biggest i wanted to go really as its only a run about,

so the complete loom from a 1.8 zetec fiesta and the ecu from a 1.8 mondeo, any code for the mondeo ecu?

would the 1.6 zetec si car/engin eloom not work then with the mondeo ecu? as i could get on eof them so much easier

as for the ecu, does anyone no the code on it as might pop to the brakers soon and i can have a route about ;)

also that inlet in the pic in the post above, would that be ok or would i need the other zetec one?

Ollybee says a BLOB ECU there, and hes probably right. As for the inlet, your best off getting the normal metal one as im pretty sure those ones dont fit in the Fiesta bay

With the Si loom you'll need an ecu with internal edis and external PATS, not sure on the code. I would have to ask myself or do a search.

As for the inlet, if it fits in your engine bay and all the ancils are compatable with the loom/rest of the engine bay etc then shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise as per my conversion - trial and error.

do the mondeos have ecus with internal edis and external pats? must be as ur one is zetec loom and mondeo ecu (so what one u running)

or because ive got a 1.8 will i need a different ecu?

ill have to get the metal inlet as i wont have time to trial and error as got a week off nxt month 17th to the 21st and gotta be done within that time limit so cant afford to need an inlet and not to be able to get it

go for the normal inlet then, get a 1800 one as the internal bore is bigger.

dunno about all mondeo's but, the DEEP one i have for the 2.0 ltr is external PATS and internal EDIS, as is the 1.6 si loom - hence why they're commonly used (tried and tested).

If you use the 1.8 engine and a 1.8 16v fiesta loom ecu etc (ext edis) then you can use my guide pretty much, as i have all the tried and tested wiring guides on page one for splicing the cvh loom into the 16v one (provided the 8v 2i loom is the same as the 1.4 cvh loom).

id rather just put a whole complete loom in mate, let it look stock etc, and would be easier for me, would that deep ecu then work with my 1.8 engine?

plus id have trouble finding a fiesta 1.8 zetec loom, the 1.6 si is everywhere, i could get one of them and that deep ecu if that wold work

a 1.8 ecu with internal edis and external PATS (1.8 mondeo might suit)

try asking in general or do a google search etc for ford ecus, there used to be a website with all the codes and models but i don't have the link here.

Found it, although it doesnt have engine sizes anymore.....

If it is an Si loom then you need a BLOB ecu out of an early Mondeo. If it is the XR2i loom you need and XR2i ecu which I believe was 2FCD.

Might be 2FDC then, when I wrote that I wondered if it was right as they are quite a similar code.

When I did my original engine conversion with an Escort 1800 it came with that ecu but because I was using the Si loom I fried the ecu and somebody pointed me in the direction of the BLOB which worked fine until I upgraded to RS1800 spec.

right well im def going to be using a zetec si loom as going to be much easier to get hold of, and the engine is def a escort gti, so next is to get the inlet manifold and the ecu all sorted (still looking for loom tho) so you guys def rekon the 1.8 early mondeo? any chance can make that a def yes?

1.8 zetec.. HELP

Postby jonny humphrey on Thu Aug 16, 2007 9:52 pm

help needed please.
i have fitted a 1800zetec into my fiesta si which had a 1.6 8v cvh in. the engine change
has gone fine and have fitted the 1800 wiring loom which has been fine until i have
come to join the engine loom to the vehicle loom. it was an 8 pin connector and a
12pin connector so i was told to cut and join the wires but i have done so in an order off a forum
but i have no spark.i have fuel and fuel pressure, CPSis wired up and there is live to the coil pack.
any help would be brilliant please. e.g. which wires connect to each other. there seems to be alot of
brown ones for some reason??

cheers jonny

Olly's correct, 2FCD is XR2i 16v :) (i.e. 105PS, as also used in some Escorts and Orions).

2FDC is the RS1800 one.

(Both external EDIS obviously.)
