Reversing light problem.

Problem or technical question?

Reversing light problem.

Postby Guy Mk4 on Thu Feb 12, 2004 6:36 pm

Right, I've just done a search, and found what I think might be the problem, but I need a bit more information.

My reversing light only seems to come on when the clutch pedal is brought up to biting point. Just with the engine idling, if I stick it in reverse, the light stays off, until Im actually moving. I've checked the bulb, and thats fine, and the multi-plug to the rear lights is connected properly/no loose wires etc. I've read about a multi-plug on the gearbox which may be causing the problem, any information on where it is/how easy it is to fix etc, or any other information would be greatly appreciated :D

Sounds like your reverse light switch at the front of your gearbox

need to sort my one out as is doesnt work at all :aaah:

you will need to remove the gearbox cradle undertray thingy support the weight of the engine/gearbox and a 22mm? spanner to remove/refit the switch

may be worth cleaning the electrical plug connections first incase its just dirty

I finally got round to fitting my new switch today, heres a few removal tips.

If you do this there is no need to touch the undertray :D

once you have established the switch is faulty by bridging the connector

loosen the switch with 22mm spanner then snap off the plastic connector :oooh:

this will enable you to use a socket and some sort of T piece to undo the switch :Q

Here is what i used for the job...

You will have to screw the new switch in as far as you can with your fingers  then use the spanner to give it a final tighten :D
