My luck ran out - turbo through radiator *video*
I was sitting around bored, and my keys were twitching away, so I went for a drive. It was only 6 miles there (roundabout), 6 miles back, took the camera in case anything fun happened. Just as I was driving up the ramps to put it back in the shed I heard an odd sound, then as I nudged the front wheels up over the top lip of the ramps, I saw the steam. Thankfully I take it easy (not over 2,000rpm, hardly any throttle) on the 1.5 miles road back to my house and everything cools down a lot in that time.
Opening the bonnet showed an actuator bracket-shaped hole in some radiator tubes. It was pitch black, so hard to see just how bad it was, though my main concern is how on earth it happened. The engine felt/looked quite solid still, but I need to look at it in proper light. I'm meant to be going to Shrewsbury for a BBQ/party this weekend, and supposed to be going to Ford tomorrow for parts! Metro's not MOT'd....arsewipes

A few random pics because just before I left I thought it was looking like such a cool little pocket rocket toy!

Mm I'm not sure who to get to fix it. If Graham (GRS) is free to do a quick job, I'll send it to him I think. Can't afford to wait the amount of time required to get a job done by Radtec, I just hope Graham doesn't mind working on other peoples' rads
I'd expect it to be about 50 quid to fix, but I'm not sure really....

Steve - That would be an enormous help! Would you do that? It's in completely the wrong direction for you! Out to Tebay then 6 miles along the road towards Kirkby. Well if you do still think you could, drop me a PM and I'll give you directions. Could trundle out to the road end to meet you in the Metro so you don't zoom past. That would be a big help though
Like I say, the engine SEEMED stable, and the top engine mount seem to be fine, but obviously I couldn't see the gearbox mounts. If it's those, Deflex are going to get an earfull, they've been nothing but trouble
It's the only thing that could've caused it really, but I'm interested to see just how they/it failed

What a pain in the ass. At least you noticed it mate, could have been much worse.
If you don't get any luck with it, I could weld it for ya, would require sending it though!
It is ally is it not?
Steve

I couldn't not notice it...as you will see on the video!
(Still uploading) Yeah it's all aluminium, I very much doubt if anyone near to me can fix an ally one. I've emailed Graham at GRS, will speak to him tomorrow. Could you really fix it Steve? Not 100% sure what you'd do, but I'm thinking it needs new tubes and they'll need welding in at the ends
Or can you replace a small section of tube or what? I really really really want it working again by this weekend...poo never happens when I've got nothing to do!

Take some photographs mate, and E-Mail them to me.
Depending on where it is, I don't feel confident enough to do any of the viens, but the end caps are easy man!
But hey, if I can't fix it, GRS is 25 minutes down the road!

It's right in the middle in front of the turbo, not a nice and easy end tank sadly! Graham's just emailed back and said he'll see what's what when he has pictures. Will get up in good time tomorrow and strip it all off again and see just how bad the damage is...and what caused it!!
Will send you some pics when I send them to Graham, didn't realise he was so close!
Video of tonight's action now at the top of the thread. It's only 3 minutes or so long, and seems a bit juddery towards the end, but you get the picture

Yeah I'm the same mate with my movie making my divvyx is just not up to the same standards as my extra compressioned mempegs. I tend to use a mixture of the pair. I find that usually sorts things out a treat. This method has the benefit of only using a few megawhatsits on the hardmcgigger, which is also very nice.
Bring back VHS and BBC micro's, I could operate both of those faultlessly!

Mm...I've got to be happy with the mileage it's done, but this has happened at an inconvenient time. I'm gagging to see what the hell's gone wrong
All I was doing was driving up a ramp, and the trail of water starts halfway up the short ramps up into the garage!
Bizarre...daylight will tell all. Hope the vid works ok this time.

DivyX lol Very appropriate! I've just played the version of the video I have and it's jumping around all over the place at the end! Not to worry...not a particularly important video anyway. I was filming wasps and dragonflies today

If you Right Click and go down to Properties does it say it's an MPEG or mpg file? If so, it should open in Windows Media Player with no problems

Winamp media file? Right click on the file, go to Open With... and select Windows Media Player
Or Real Player if you have it

Could try installing a codec pack?
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_L ... c_Pack.htm
Or if you haven't already got it grab winamp.
http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/cli ... -7plus.exe
Could just be that it didnt download correctly

What come's next? who care's, why worry about things over which you have no control. Freedom is a voyage of discovery with all the enjoyment of seeing things and experiencing events for the first time. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

No trying to scare you but when my turbo actuator bracket went through the radiator core, Graham couldn't repair it and it required a new core
Thanks
