So yesterday I got made redundant
The company i worked for went into administration, all happened quite suddenly too. All the notice we had prior was a letter saying the company were making cut backs, that was around May.
Just thought id mention it on here, as i know some people have been in similar situations, after any advise really. Ive started job hunting already, but im not sure i want to stay in the same industry anyway, ideal time to change careers i guess.

Jamie's right mate, then go out there and get anything you can - work at McDonalds if you have to, just something to keep the money rolling in. Then if you do have to train for something else, you at least have a mentally untaxing job while you do so.

I was a Service Advisor at a multi franchise main dealer, had been there over 2 years. Worst thing is i only get paid for the time since last payday, which was 2 weeks ago. So i get 2 weeks pay as redundancy, pretty poor tbh.
I have a personal deadline to get a job by the new year, or i will do as Chris suggested and get a job anywhere. The trouble i have is, if im in a job thats easy and pays the bills then i wont try and get anything better. It took me 7 years to get out of my last job that wasnt going anywhere.

s**t luck!
I've been travelling for 8 months and now i've settled in Melbourne, Australia. I've got a degree in construction management and experience as a QS, although I havnt got a job yet in my field, i didn't struggle to get a job and i've had 3 interviews so far. Although my Visa is the issue sometimes, at least people are reading my covering letter and inviting for interviews considering I didn't get one interview in the UK in a whole year.
After living in OZ for 4 months you can see what a top down society the UK is and how the new government is going to wring the country out completely making sure the fat cats stay fat and the poor get poorer. Graduate jobs here pay similar amounts to jobs that might require 7 years plus experience at home, life is cheaper, better quality, people are happier the weather is better and society is much fairer.
Only advice I would give is to physically hand in your CV and covering letters to managers / HR, it shows keeness, and always say that you will ring them to follow up your application. If it fails, find out why and address those issues.
Hope you find something soon and don't get stuck in a rut!

I would totally disagree, the company I work for is currently looking for a new IT engineer. The adverts clearly state either e-mail to a certain address or post CV to a certain person. Those people that seem to be unable to follow simple instructions have been binned off straightaway
We've had applications from as far away as Mumbai!

Re: So yesterday I got made redundant
The companies i have been in touch with so far have requested I email my CV to them rather than post. I am doing my best to not get stuck in a rut, from what ive seen that only seems to happen when people have an income from job seekers allowance or similar. I dont plan on receiving that, least while i can afford not to. Although it would be nice to get some of the tax back that ive paid over the years
Jay- Well i dont think what i got could be classified as redundancy pay. It was just two weeks pay that i was owed, and that takes 6-8 weeks to be processed
Fortunately i havent got a mortgage/rent or anything to maintain. I was due to go to the estate agents the day i got made redundant to pay the deposit on a flat i was getting, thankfully i decided against going up there

Ah yeah, of course mate, no doubt, follow the instructions set out otherwise you'll look like a tit! I'm saying IF there is the possibility to do so e.g. you live close or you ring up and ask prior etc...
I've rocked up with expressions of interest just to hand in and without fail, someone has invited me in there and then to sit down for a chat and on two occasions they have followed up inviting me for an interview even if they haven't had job advertised but are still interested in what I have to offer.

Jay, won't happen mate, gov't is kicking legal aid for immigration right into touch plus the migrant population of workers is pretty much going away of its own accord. It's just that the Sun, Mirror, Guardian and Express (in between screams of "Diana, Diana where for art thou Diana") aren't reporting it
Nothing to see here...
