Posting in the wrong forum...

Postby Capri on Wed Dec 06, 2006 1:00 pm

People are getting lazy, knowing that if they post in the wrong forum someone will move it. From now on topics in the incorrect forums *may* just be deleted, depending on content, poster, time of month, have you ever looked at a moderators post in an inappropriate manner etc etc. Make sure you post in the correct forum.

Allow me to draw your attention to this quote from the board posting guidelines at the top of this page.

For the past few months, I've been moving posts that aren't posted in the right forum. I did this in the hope that some gentle persuasion would help people to get the idea that posting in General to try and get more post views won't work, as your post will end up where it should have been in the first place anyway. I also hoped it would make those people who don't consider whether their post is going in the right place think a little bit more about where they were posting. It does get quite tedious to have to shift stuff over in order to keep the General forum less cluttered every time we log in.

We're not robots and we do realise that sometimes it's hard to know which forum a post should go in when it's a bit borderline. However, what does take the piss is posting stuff in General when it's quite obvious that it shouldn't be there - and I'm talking about stuff which isn't genuine car-related discussion, thinly-disguised adverts for cars for sale or wanted, and also anything which starts 'I know this isn't the right forum for this, but...'. If you know it's not the right forum, don't bloody put it in here!

As such, please be aware of the above quote from the posting guidelines. Anything which is posted with a blatant disregard of how the forum works is liable to be deleted or locked without warning. Obviously, most will still be moved if they're borderline or if it's less obvious which forum they belong in. We do this in order to keep the General forum free-flowing and less cluttered, not because we want to be pains in the arse (well, not always :P  )

Thank you for your time, and have an absolutely smashing day. Moan over. :)

Incidentally, before the smart-arses set eyes on this post, I am aware of the irony of this being posted in the wrong forum. However, I'm exempting this post because it concerns this forum and... well... it's mods' prerogative. ;)

Thanks for your support chaps. As regards pine wardrobes, I shall say nothing, except that I hope Steve has fun with his new toy. :)

All joking aside, though, this is a serious post (well, ostensibly), so please take note and remember that if you do post wilfully in the wrong forum, you're liable to find your post deleted or locked. :)

Well done! :D

I think a lot of this comes from Passion Ford, their General Discussion is full of random crap and anything goes, not general car discussion.

Naturally. As I said, we're not robots. I actually thought I'd mentioned that we'd not be harsh to the newbies, but I obviously didn't. Put simply, if the poster hasn't been here long enough to know how the place works, then their post will simply end up moved. It's all part of the service.

I blame society
What come's next? who care's, why worry about things over which you have no control. Freedom is a voyage of discovery with all the enjoyment of seeing things and experiencing events for the first time. Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Atif - I do keep an eye on the Parts For Sale forum, but multiple posting does seem to have been kept to a minimum. Personally, I treat any more than three simultaneous posts as taking the piss, and will do something about that - but i've not seen much of that of late. Furthermore, I accept that sometimes people might have several unrelated groups of items to sell (e.g. 3 items of ICE, 4 items of brake-related parts, 5 bits of interior trim, and an engine), in which case a post for each group is justifiable, if not preferrable.

The main ethos of the multiple posting rules in the parts for sale form is that they are there to prevent people posting loads of posts containing a single item each, and I haven't seen that happening in a long time. :)

Don't forget that you're always free to let the mods know if you think someone's posts are unacceptable.
