what to declare on my insurence ?

Postby lardass93 on Mon Feb 07, 2011 1:43 pm

hi guys i've recently put the xr2i full kit on my standard mk3 5 door fiesta, and was just wondering if i had to declare it as a body mod ? as if i had the xr2i i wouldn't declare it as it would be standard kit, but because its not on the car its meant for do i need to declare it ? if this makes any sense ? also i've removed the rear seats does this mean my car is technically a van thus cheaper insurence ? help would be much appreciated :) cheers guys, Ross

you should declair all your modifications to your insurance company, some companys only worry about modifications to your engine and dont care about body kits. not sure about the back seats though. im no whizz with insurance but i believe if you dont declair your mods and you do have an accident then your car may not be covered.

best bet is to ring your insurance company tell them what you have done and see what they come up with.

declare the bodykit, will be trouble in the event of an accident and the insurance dont know about it.

the back seats make no difference to insurance in the uk. unless they have been taken out for a reason such as big ICE install or roll cage etc but these should also be declared. if you just taken them out to save some weight then dont worry about telling them.

hope this helps

van insurance is normally dearer
Any thing that is different to how it came from factory should be declared, then its up to them what they take into account

With the back seats if anything happened, you could risk lieing and say you took them out to clean them

As said mate at 18 your the insurance companies worst nightmare (but most lucrative customer) Im afraid.

Taking your rear seats out shouldn't have affected your premium though :-? unless you told them you took the back seats out cos you like to go ram raiding at the weekends and wanted a bit more boot space  lol
