Russ' mint green FRST , UPDATE 23/3/13
Russ' mint green FRST , UPDATE 23/3/13
well i thought seeing as i've been on here for a while now i'd put up a thread so you guys can have a look at my car if u wish lol
it started out life as a 1.3 frascatti in mint green bought it from an old lady 1 lady owner fll service history 43k genuine on the clock on a 95 reg so yep its a mk3.5 with a years T&T for £600 wich i thought was a fair price, very clean shell all it had was a scab on the rear nearside arch.
so obviously the journey for the little fezza began going through some rather poor stages wich i admitt now i wish i hadn't done to it lol
now i'm a student and was learning so some things had a corner cut or two shall we say but no worries theyv all been sorted now
well this is how i bought it apart from the ripspeed alloys (i was bored and decided to see what they looked like)

well first of all i love the colour! its in very good condition too (shame all my pics are when its dirty lol)
now from this i purchased a pair of si bumpers and some "one off" moulded side skirts, quite like the escort gti's, and grabbed some cheap wheels and a scorpion backbox tarted it all up and chucked it on

after this i decided that the grey dash just looked abit old and tired so i decided to bring it a bit of life

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
so after this was done i decided it desperately needed the ride height sorting to i bought what i could afford at the time which was a gmax spring kit 60mm all round and a pair of front g max shocks

no going back now lol
then i finally decided that i was being way too much of a tight a$$ with my car and decided i'd do things properly and get rid of the cheap tat so a few things were bought:
new wheels

and a new kit

so whilst i was saving for paint and tyres i decided id whack on the bumpers and strip the car out, although not thinking that stripping it would take the weight of the suspension, now put back in the interior iv now got to wait for the rear springs to settle for it to sit properly but still i thought this was a good start on improving from the old look

and then finally i got some money so i got a bit busy with the painting

and before anyone asks yes they are hanging off my bedroom lights lol i thought itd be a good place for em to dry

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
and so i got out there with a drill and a trusty mates help after restudding my kit i chucked it on the car (just need a driverside front jacking cover
)

much better now just to get the paint for the bumpers and well be getting there
and now i bring you up to current date with it as i fitted my rear interior back in with all the trim painted gloss black to match the dash as i feel the grey gives it a bit of a old grandad feel to it, and made a escort gti half leather rear bench fit in the back

excuss the lack of front door cards as im on the lookout for a pair of mk4 door cards again to bring the interior a little up to date

and just thought i'd show you lot the ride height on the front this is how im hoping to get the car sitting all round

well thats my car hope you guys like it and sorry for the dirt etc i will give it a clean i promise lol

I love that!!
IMO it needs the Si bumpers not the XR2i ones, would suit it a lot more and look a bit different!

thanks guys
na i prefer the turbo ones they'l look really good with paint on them as im planning on gettin it sitting right then getting the wheels powdercoated in a metallic white and run a white pinstrip through the bumpers instead of the green/blue inserts
jayrs wrote:

yea the seats are a ok fit but they dont sit all the way back but apart from that theyre good

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
future plans are as such :
interior:
get some mk4 front door cards painted gloss black with the centres retrimmed in green leather
retrim the bucket seats in black leather all over with possible green stitching
richbrook gearknob
respray the dash and trim as its come off a little bit where my mates used to put theyre feet on it
exterior:
mk3.5 wingmirrors back on with colour coded mirrors and satin black backs(if you know what i mean lol)
rear uprated shocks
powdercoated wheels in metallic white
bumpers powedercoated with white pinstrip in insert gap
alloy radiator in the gap for the intercooler
rs turbo spoiler
and a REALLY good detail clean including clay bar
engine:
2.0 zetec fitted
2.5inch/3inch s/s system
mild racing cams
HO inlet
not sure on what inlet piping to use yet
roose motorsport hose kit in black most likely
remap
esrt gearbox with LSD
looking for around 170/180 bhp from it

i had one of these in the same colour, never liked it that much, couldnt take it seriously, so got rid in the end
looks good though and nice plans, although your expected bhp figures are bit hopefull, the Ho inlet wont allow the 2.0 to have more than around 160bhp, so aftermarket or maybe the 1.8/2.0 focus plastic inlet is needed
even then cams and bigger exhaust wont see 180

thanks for all the good feedback guys and yea i love the colour although it is a bit expensive for paint

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
i know of someone thats done it to a mk4 fez, said he had troubles fitting the rear bench too lol
yea i needed the paint for my old one, i settled for a similar colour for arch touch ups, was bit of a bodge really
but if i got it from ford it would have been £12-£13 quid, same for a paint specialists in swansea
yet again my current Si is the same, cost me £13.50
for one fing CAN!

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
yea thats why i love it the colour is really nice and i'v never seen another one in the same colour and havn't seen one at all thats modified either, which i really like as it makes it seem a bit unique
i will give the car a wash and get a decent camera and take some photos of the paint as in all these photos its a different colour to the actuall colour of the car the photo below the pic of it with the sideskirts being tested on (when there white) where it doesnt have the skirts on is about the only one thats really "close" to the colour of it and its really metallic

Really nice looking car, I love the colour. If you want around 180bhp out a 2l silver top you're going to need throttle bodies.

I really dont think an HO inlet would flow 180bhp N/A If you started with a 2lt blacktop you'd be able to do it as there 146bhp as standard.

Re: Russ' mint green fezza
A standard 2.0 can probably make about 150 to 160bhp with a well tuned map, but would probably need a complete after market management system to get the absolute best from it as opposed to a chip - But I don't know for sure? Personally, I would much prefer to have a mappable ECU though
I'm not sure what the standard 2.0 injectors are capable of (a safe 150 bhp may be???), but you may need to change them for something larger, and possibly a decent fuel pump too - standard Escort Cosworth may be? I would imagine that something along the lines of an RS1800 or RS Turbo fuel pump is edging close to its limits at fuelling for 160 bhp? Anyone know?
The inlet, as Jamie says, will probably restrict you beyond this, even with cams and other tuning, which is where throttle bodies would really allow you to go a lot further. Obviously then, cams, head work, and other tuning can be used to full advantage. Standard 2.0 cams will probably restrict your power too, even with better induction you won't see a lot more than 160 bhp. Piper Fast Road cams are said to see 180bhp with throttle bodies, and more with decent head work. You probably won't see any of these figures without changes to the exhaust system though...
A decent exhaust manifold will help no end. I use a 4-2-1 and I find it works well, even with a standard exhaust system
At around 130 to 140 bhp, a stainless system probably won't do a lot - I certainly haven't noticed any great difference between a Magnex system and a cheap pattern part!
Beyond that sort of power though, the restrictions in the poor bends of a pattern part will probably start to show and decent system would almost definitely be advantageous. In my opinion though, even a decent stainless system probably wouldn't flow well enough for anything near 180 bhp.
Just some of my lovely fluffy thoughts for you to think about

cheers guys well reading through that has really made me see how untuneable the silver top really is IMO
i would start with the blacktop but i've heard the wiring is a nightmare so i wouldnt dare to venture into that,
i think for the value of it, it might be worth going with a rs turbo lump as they seem to get more power for there money so to speak,
im only really concerned to this because my two mates arfe building a XE nova and and my other mate is building a 205 with a gti6 engine in i wanna be able to keep up with them obviously i know im not going to beat them but id like not to get smoked by them lol

An EFI rs turbo lump with a t3 conversion will piss all over the 205 with a gti 6 engine.

N/A will be cheaper but for good power you need to spend big bucks, Depends how much money you have to spend on it really. You would be better getting a scrap zetec fiesta or rs turbo and just taking everything you need from them instead of just buying bits here and there
Btw blacktp and silvertop use exactly the same wiring only difference will be with what inlet you decide to use.
Guide to zetec power. My mate had 1.8 zetec with stage 3 burton power head and kent racing cams, jenvey throttle bodies with omex 600 management and it made 175hp maxed out. Guessing a 2l you may see 10-15hp more but there is at least 4k worth of new parts there plus setting up fees. Turbo would do the easily with T3,chip uprated inj and actuator etc

£4000 for 175 bhp!! sod that well all is good for the moment now as iv picked up a rst shell with a fully rebuilt engine for pennies so its all system's are go for the engine conversion
