Mk4 afew questions

Postby jonblaze on Fri Jan 22, 2010 8:06 pm

hi im new here and im after a bit help and info.

im looking to change my head unit and front door speakers, the i head unit i think i understand now but im not sure about the speakers. i had a look for these questions but wasnt sure of the answers, is it hard to remove the door panels on S reg mk4 to get to the speakers? AFAIK i need to get 130mm speakers with the adapters, but what is best Component or full range? is it hard to install the tweeters? do i need to buy a crossover or does the car have 1 already?

Also any recommendations for speakers up to about £70? (powered from the head unit)

thanks

Door Cards are easy to remove. One screw in door handle surround, grab handle and just above the door pocket, then pull the door card and it will come off.

13cm for the front speakers :P

then pull the door card and it will come off.

no dont do that or you will just break the door card, the clips that hold the card on are akward and deffinately not easy to remove

ford sell a specific tool used to pry them off, i just use a flat blade screwdriver, pull the edge of the card so you can see behind, and lookf or the yellow clips, many of them around the whole side of the door, and plce the screw driver on it and smack the end to knock them out of the clip holes, do this with each and it should come off after you remove the door handle surround and the other screws, one in grab handle and other in the door pocket

im using Alpine E types, theyre £35 in halfords las ti checked for the 13cm ones, theyre top notch lasted far longer than my old sony ones and offer good sound for what you pay, think theyre 140w max

Are these the speakers that on the box they come in have the list of car makes they fit?
if so these speakers dont fit the whole for the old speakers if i am right meaning you have to drill new holes?
if so was it easy or not?

you need to buy adapter plates, you can get them cheap on ebay

or you can simply drill the wholes needed and put self tappers in
