Another little update for you guys. I took the inlet manifold I got to school yesterday and cleaned it up a little and gave it a quick polish on the machine they have. It looks loads better, but isn’t too ‘in your face’

Image

I also got round to doing the EGR port. I used the paper template I made to cut the piece from some plate steel I had lying around. It took a little work with the file but works a treat. I also found 3 8mm bolts to bolt it on. I made a gasket from some thin card, and the red stuff you can see is gasket sealer. It should be okay, and one of the DT teachers used to be a mechanic, and he agrees.

Image

That’s about it for now. Thanks for looking!

I’ve got another update for ya. I have been looking for a black parcel shelf for the fiesta, and then decided to just re-trim my blue one. It came out alright:

Image

I don’t think it looks too bad, and it hardly cost me anything to do.

I have also made a spacer for the RS2000 handbrake cable. I have been told that the drivers side outer is too short, and the inner cable is slightly too long, so I made a little spacer to solve this problem:

Image Image

All it does is mimic the normal end of the cable, spacing the inner cable out by around 28mm. It should do the trick.

Also, I have trimmed the back of the rear seats on the metal backing. While the seat material was mint, the rear of it was scratched where it had been stored/things being put in the boot. It wasn’t too bad but I wanted it to look right.
The material part of the seats comes off with the removal of a few plastic nuts, leaving just the metal backing plate. It wasn’t really a hard job and they came out fine:

Image Image

My other length of suede arrived in the post, so I got cracking with the headlining. I had to remove most of the interior plastics, such as the grab handles and sun visors. Once these were all taken off, the lining needed to be pulled away from the sealing rubbers, on the doors, sunroof, tailgate and windscreen. The hardest part was probably messing around with the sunroof rubber.
After the associated trims are removed, it was a case of peeling back the glue that sticks the lining to the roof, and taking it out through the boot.
The trimming part was easy. We just took it a small length at a time, smoothing it down and pulling it tight, making sure there were no creases. After about 15 minutes it was all done and we left it to dry for a couple of minutes.
Putting it back in was merely a reverse of the removal, ensuring the lining went underneath the windscreen rubber first, and working backwards from there. All of the clips and handles went back in ok, but I think I will spray the blanking covers black, as they stand out a bit too much. I am also going to get a drivers side grab handle.

Image Image Image

I also got some Ford/McGuard Locking Wheel nuts, and I may get another set, for added security!

Image

So for the headlining, does anyone know what model/year fiesta the black grab handles and sun visors came in?? as I need to get some really.

And that’s it!

Thanks!

Update finally!!

My bro managed to find me some black grab handles to replace the horrible cream ones in the front, and the blanking plugs in the back. They were taken from a Ford P100 pickup, which has one on the passenger side. Luckily they had 3 in, and he got another one from a Transit Door pull. They were a little grubby, so I cleaned them with warm soapy water and a nail brush.

Image
Image

I got round to spraying the caps that hold the headlining on, I just lightly sanded them down and gave them a few coats with Matt black paint.

Image

I got another surprise along with the grab handles, my bro found a crappy nova at work smashed to pieces. When he looked inside he saw it had a Momo Race steering wheel. For some reason the owner decided to paint the centre red, and not mask the rest up! It was a crappy job, so it didn’t take long to clean it with a Stanley blade and some thinners. The paint also came off the leather easily. Once all the paint was stripped, a nice brushed alloy finish was revealed, which goes well with the rest of the interior.

Image

As well as these, he found me a Racing Puma alloy gear knob. After looking on eBay, I did not want to pay the £15+ they do, so I asked him to get me one. It is in mint condition and after a little polishing, it looks brand new. To replace the rubbish standard gear knob, it is a simple screw off, screw on jobby.

Image

To go with the knob, I bought a Fiesta Si/RST leather gear gaiter (Thanks Dracos). It is in mint condition and is obviously a direct fit.

Image
Image

I also bought some boot strut covers from Dracos. They are the better Si carpeted items, which match the boot carpet perfectly. To fit them, the plastic panels in the corner of the boot need removing, and then these are just located in the correct place, I think the boot looks quite good now.

Image

I’ve got some more locking wheel nuts as well, so that makes 8 overall. I’ve got some normal nuts as well to go with them, polished ones

Image

The focus side repeaters I got have been modified. I took away all the excess plastic from around the bulbs, then put some plastic back over it, stuck it with plastic cement and electrical taped over the top. This means I wont have to cut out much on the wings to get these in.

Image

Another addition to the parts stockpile is a set of RST Arches and side skirts. JasperJ came to collect some springs, and I ended up buying these! Obviously they will need painting, but are just what I was after!

Image
Image

I bought an XR2i Rear bumper from DaveRom the other day. He didn’t want much for it as someone had attempted (very badly) to fill the rubbing strip grooves. It was pure filler, and would definitely have dropped out very quickly. I took it straight home and removed the filler. I found the best method was to drill loads of holes, then chip it out with a flat screw driver. Make sure you do it outside, as dust gets everywhere.

Image
Image

I had some time off work the other day, so I thought I would have a go at filling the front bumper. There was a fibreglass kit in the shed that my bro got for his R5, so I stole that. After reading the very short instructions on the pack (I have never used fibreglass before!) I got started. The fibreglass matt was cut into manageable length strips, and the resin was mixed up. I went the whole way along the bumper, doing about 3 layers overall. I noticed the sides are deeper than the front, so put another 2 layers on there. Once it dried I trimmed off the excess matting and gave it a quick rub down to remove the little pieces. There is about 2mm left that will need filling, but this is much better than it being full of filler.

Image
Image

I went down to my uncles scrap yard again at the weekend and got a Mk5 Brake Servo, I didn’t have anywhere to put it so I have left it down there for now. I will need the bar modifying slightly for it to work properly, but other than that it will be an easy fit.

Thanks a lot, and sorry for the delay in updating!

sorry, its a MK5 escort. when fitting bigger brakes the standard master cylinder is too small, and you do not get the full potential of the brakes. fitting a mk5 one gets round this problem. the brake bar that travels across the bulk head is too long and needs shortening by about 1". it will need welding.

hope that helps!

is it the fiesta brake bar that needs shortning or do you use the escort one and shorten that?

sorry, my bad. it isnt the bar that runs across the bulkhead, its a bit at the back of the master cylinder that is too long, and causes the pedal to be too low.

its ok ive understood it now

when you do it mate it might be a good idea to do a guide on how you go about doing it so other people can benifit from it if you take loads of pictures and post mesurments aswell that would be very usefull.

I plan to do this conversion after my car has been resprayed and i come to reassemble everything as i will be using 4wd cosworth brakes upfront and fitting a zetec s rear beam and focus rear discs and callipers at a later date

if you retrim the headlining make sure you use lots (i.e. Two 400ml tins) of spray adhesive, as mine began to sag after a week or so. And also leave it out of the car for a few ays to dry before fitting it :)

Scott

P.S. your best bet would be to dye it i would think :D

This post is long over due, lol. i have been working flat out and havent had time to scratch my arse, let alone take loads of pics and write a post, lol.

After quite a wait I got hold of the suspension that I ordered, a 35mm lowering Gmax kit, with some Spax front Springs. Not the best but it will do for now. Full Koni or Spax Kit will eventually be put on.

Image

I took delivery of a Sparco alloy front strut brace and also an OMP steel rear brace, should tighten things up a little! I have also ordered some brand new drop-links and a pair of Powerflex anti-roll bar bushes.

Image Image

I have decided on the wheels for my project, Mk6 Escort RS2000 15’s, mainly because they were free but also because I quite like the look of them. The offset of them would normally make the wheels sit further into the arches but the Zetec s beam will combat that on the rear and the 5mm spacers with Mondeo wheel studs will sort the front out.
I will get some pictures later.

My interior is almost complete!! I just need some black visors (can anyone help???) and to finish my custom gear gaiter, to match the handbrake gaiter I made:

Image

I also got shut of the Momo Race steering wheel that I had and replaced it with a nicer factory RS1800 item:

Image

To fit the Mk3 item on the Mk3.5, I used the cast alloy part that houses the bearing and ignition barrel, from a mk3 and replaced the larger mk3.5 item. I still kept the Mk3.5 cowling, but this rubbed as it was too long. It has now been replaced with a Black Mk3 item. This means you can fit Mk3 steering wheels to mk3.5's!! : ) Got the idea from fiestamodder123, thanks!

I also managed to get all the black handles put on, it looks awesome now,

Image

On Monday I will also be ordering my braided hoses from a guy on eBay, these and the 4x4 Cossie discs are the only thing holding the project up now!!

I picked up the mk6 escort servo from the scrappy, but I now need to get it modified, if anyone knows a good welder let me know please!

Can anyone help me with some of my wanted parts?? If you can PM me, http://www.fiestaturbo.com/forums/about138757.html

I also have the engine here with me, but more on that later.

I think thats about it for now, enjoy and feel free to ask any questions, i have no secrets, lol.
